Marriage: Bride or Groom must be a member of the parish. Contact the Parish Center at least six months before the planned date.

We are pleased to report that the Rectory at Lake Church has
been sold. Thanks to Barb Beattie with Beattie-Janeshek Realty

The Divine Savior Youth Choir is open to all youth in the parish
from Grades 3-12. We have about 30 minutes of practice in the
choir loft after 10 am Mass (approx 11-11:30) every Sunday. If

Jeans, new or gently used, Misc. Vegetables and Cash Donations
to purchase turkeys and fresh produce for Thanksgiving.
This coming weekend we will have the start of our second
special food collection as Thanksgiving is approaching. Before
and after the Nov. 14-15 Mass students will be handing out slips
with the picture of a food item for our pantry. The items should
be returned the following weekend. This collection was a great
success last year.
Gift-A-Child: Thanks for supporting this program. Gifts are due
on or before the Nov. 21-22 weekend. Unwrapped gifts with
loose wrapping paper are appreciated. If you would still like a
name or want someone to shop for you, call Rosemary at

Do you think your chili is the best? Come join us for our 1st
annual Chili Cookoff and Packers Party on November 15
after the 10 am Mass. Chili tasting and judging before and during
the Packers game which will be streamed on the large screen in
the basement. Winner announced at half-time. If chili isn’t your
thing, you are welcome to bring your favorite game-time
snack. Sponsored by the DS youth service group.
The youth of Divine Savior have a Youth Service Group. If you

Goodbye October, hello November! I can’t believe that we are starting the third month of our school year already. Our yearly theme is: With God’s Help: Change the World One Day at a Time. Each month we are working on different ways to make a difference in our school, community, and world. In September, we worked on Kindness and Caring. In October ,we worked on Respecting Ourselves and Others, and this November, we will be working on Service to our School, Community, and World. Please pray for our students and staff as we embrace God’s call to service. On October 30 we held our annual Fall Festival to help raise money for Sister Jo and her mission in Guatemala. The DSCS student Council worked hard to put on another wonderful festival. We were so pleased that this year Sister Jo was able to stop and join in the fun! Our students were able to raise almost $300.00. DSCS students were off of school on November 4, but the teachers were hard at work! Our in-service last Wednesday focused on the Speaking and Listening Standards. We also continued our work on the accreditation process. We are in our self-study year and will be visited next school year by an accreditation team. This week Tuesday, we will be honoring our Veterans with a Mass, program, and breakfast to follow. Our students and staff are honored to host this special event each year. DSCS extends our gratitude to all those who have served or are currently serving to protect our many freedoms On November 17, Divine Savior Catholic School will be blessing and dedicating a new piece of playground equipment in loving memory of Ron Schommer. The new fire truck toy was purchased with the money donated to DSCS in memory of Ron. There will be a prayer service in Ron’s honor directly after Mass followed by the dedication and blessing. DIVINE SAVIOR SCHOOL & PARISH NEWS PASTORAL COLUMN
1 Kg 17:10-16; Heb. 9:24-28; Mk 12:38-44
In today’s readings, we hear about two poor widows who are extremely generous, giving from their need, rather than their sur-plus. So many of us are blessed with far more than what we need to survive, and yet we are often possessive of the material things we own. Sometimes, we have so much “stuff” we store it in our closets, garages, basements and attics. When we have no more room in our homes, we rent storage sheds to store more stuff. It’s crazy, really, and we all are guilty of owning more than we need. Oh, we are willing to share, but so often that sharing comes out of our excess, not our basic necessities.
Few of us know what it is like to struggle day to day to sur-vive…at least not for long periods of time. We might hit a tough stretch here and there, but for the most part, our lives are secure enough to know that we will have food on the table and a roof over our heads. But these two women are shining examples of generosity. The woman in the first reading has one meal left for her and her son, and shares it with Elijah. The other woman gives away her last two coins.
These aren’t just cutesy stories in the Bible. These kinds of stories still happen today in our world. We just need to look for them. Like the elderly man I met who lived under a bridge in Rochester, NY, who gave away the only hot meal he had in over a week (along with an hour of warmth) to a complete stranger simp-ly because she had a young child. Or the group of 12 little chil-dren in Matamoros, Mexico, who shared a single can of soda be-cause they’d never had one of their own. Or the people who gave years of their lives to help others recover after Hurricane Katrina. Or the marine who happened to be visiting the east coast during Hurricane Sandy and spent his vacation rescuing survivors rather than worrying about his own safety. Or my friend’s daughter who recently donated a kidney to her brother. These are stories of in-credible generosity and of true and selfless love of neighbor. These are not easy sacrifices, but this is the kind of love our God calls us to share with others.
I am inspired by that kind of love and generosity. I have been blessed to witness this kind of care on many occasions, and each time I am moved to be more generous and loving. I am challenged by all these witnesses of the Gospel, those in the Scriptures stories and those “living” those stories today. May we all be inspired by these examples to love more deeply and to share more openly with others. Deb Hamm, Pastoral Associate
Beginning the first weekend of Advent (Nov. 28 & 29) in our cluster, we will have a blessing of all those who bring
Communion to the sick and homebound on weekends. Pyxes will not be filled during the communion procession. All who take communion to the homebound will be invited forward with their pyxes after the regular communion procession at all weekend Masses in our cluster. They will then receive the Blessed Sacrament in their pyxes and a prayer of blessing will be prayed over them. This is one of the ways we are integrating the Synod Initiatives in our cluster. This will be a great opportunity for our faith community to recognize those who bring Communion to the sick, as well to bless them and send them forth to bring Christ to those who could not join us at Mass. It also reminds us that there are members of our faith family who are unable to join us due to illness. Please remember them, and those who bring communion to them, in your prayers.

Cemetery Fall Clean-up Reminder – Please don’t forget that this is the time of year when any glass memorials should be removed from the cemeteries. They could fill up with water, freeze and then shatter. Also, any dead plants should be removed.
The OLL Human Concerns committee is collecting stuffing mix, cranberries, toothpaste & toothbrushes for the RL Interfaith Food Pantry. Please drop off items in the back of church.

ATTN: Knitters & Crocheters - Mittens, scarves and hats are needed for the Random Lake Thanksgiving Ecumenical Mitten Tree. If anyone has leftover yarn, please drop it off on the back porch of the OLL church office for anyone wanting to knit or crochet. Items are placed on a tree at the Ecumenical Thanksgiving service on Nov. 25 and then given to our local Food Pantry for distribution to local needy families.
Family Program: On Sunday, Nov. 15, join us for breakfast and stay for prayer-time with the children and youth, the final session of “Altaration – The Mystery of the Mass Revealed” and then pitch in to fill 25 boxes with the food collected for the House of Peace Holiday Food Box Drive.
Our first group of Confirmation students and their sponsors are heading to St. Ben’s Social Justice Immersion Program next Sunday, Nov. 15. Thank you for your prayers for our Confirmation students and sponsors.
Wednesday CRE: Next class is this Wednesday, November 11. Please join us for Evening Prayer as the young people honor our veterans at 6:15 pm in the church. Afterwards, our high school youth will be sorting all of the food collected so far for the Holiday Food Box Collection and putting together 25 boxes we are donating to the House of Peace.
The CRE families are participating in the House of Peace Holiday
Food Box Drive sponsored by the Capuchin Community in Milwaukee. We will be collecting foodstuffs until November 15. The boxes will be filled on Nov. 15. If you are able to help us out, we will need 25 boxes of dried Mashed Potatoes and 25 cans (not glass) of turkey gravy too. Plastic boxes for collecting these items will be in the Parish Center and in the back of church by the Food Pantry table marked House of Peace.
Women’s Group: We meet again on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 10 am at Kathy’s Trackside Café in Random Lake. We’ll continue our discussion of Random Moments of Grace. Extra copies of this book will be available at no charge.
Advent starts on Sunday, November 29. Our Lady of the Lakes invites you and your family to make an Advent Wreath after the 8:15 am Mass in the newly remodeled Community Room in the Parish Center. We will provide all supplies, and have a pamphlet with weekly prayers for lighting the four candles, with reflections and Advent meal prayers. Everyone is welcome to make an Advent Wreath. The Mission Trip Pancake Breakfast will be happening at the same time across the hall in the gym. Come join us!
