A Letter From our Lieutenant Governor

Happy Summer Dragons!

Tina Nguyen

I hope everyone is enjoying their BEE-utiful summer

thus far. The anticipated Region 3 Key Club Beach

Boomba / Clean-Up is coming up this Saturday in sunny

Huntington Beach. BEE sure to come out for some

summer fun and service with the Region 3 family. But

what fun will there be you may ask? Well... does pie-ing

the LTGs sound fun yet? What about a water balloon

fight and a watermelon eating contest? With a sprinkle

of ice breakers, there will be lots of activities planned out

for every minute of the day so make sure to come on out

and enjoy what Beach Boomba has to offer. You will not

regret going! With that being said, make sure to bring

your $5 entrance fee along with your medical release

form. If you would like to purchase / pick-up your 2015-

2016 Division 4 West T-Shirt, BEE sure to bring $13. Try to

bring exact change i f poss ible please.

You all should have your Disney hats on because

the August DCM will be at Downtown Disney for our very

own Division 4 West Scavenger Hunt. Yes, you read that

correctly. You will be given tasks ranging from

serenading the guest, building legos in certain shapes,

and other great hunting activities. Grab your friend and

your camera to record your Kodak moments.

Make sure to continue fundraising with your club for PTP since Fall Rally is

closely approaching. If you read up to this point, DO NOT stop. Continue on with

the rest of the issue because your lovely Division News Editor, Aileen Nguyen, has

some great information for you in stored. Once again, enjoy your summer Dragons

and I will be you all very soon.

Greetings Dragons everywhere! I hope that your summer is going well. So

far this summer I have been working with my home club to serve the

community whenever possible. We now await the annual Beach Boom-

ba! I hope to see you all there. Also, look out for division buttons that will

make an appearance shortly. Have a good rest of your summer dragons

and keep shining!

Hey Dragons, With numerous events being coordinated, I complete-

ly cannot wait capture each member volunteering at their finest to

show off that Division 4 West capitative charms are impossible to re-

sist. I'm extremely excited to be able to meet all of your wonderful

faces Let's all get ready, but still have some fun while summer is still in

our hands.

Kaitlyn Ung ,

Alon Gary ,

I hope you all have RSVP-ed for Beach Boomba and look forward to

the annual region event. There will also be another region event in the

fall, Region Training Conference, but stay tuned by coming out to the

DCMs and continuing to infuse that dragon, roaring-soaring spirit by

serving "your home, school, and community" as we approach the mid-

dle of our summer vacation.

Michelle Bui ,

I am very excited because I am now having my first real task of Key

Club by writing a cheer for Beach Boomba. That's right. One cheer. I

guess that's my contribution to society.

Bridget Ton ,

Frank Le , Summertime allows for members to be exposed to a large

variety of events that cannot be found during the school

year! Make sure to keep up your high spirits and prepare for

the upcoming school year. I'm looking for a year of shining

service for Division 4 West!

Teryn Ngo , It is already the second month of summer ... :( BUT, it

was a pretty great month with all the service events

we had! I am really looking forward to beach

boomba!! Can't wait to see the region!

Hi everyone! Service events seem to be everywhere nowa-

days. In the past 2-3 weeks i've already racked up over 40

service hours which I an wuite proud of. For the upcoming

months I plan on attending more service events and hope-

fully profiting over $3,500 from my dance fundraiser!

Kelton Do,

5

Kendall Nakai, Aside from getting sunburnt everyday, Ocean View Key Club has

been whippin' up some pancakes and service to the community

at the Kiwanis pancake breakfast and the board has been

scrambling eggs while also preparing your upcoming service

events! Although it's summer break, we dream of service all the

time, because it never sleeps! Additionally, Ocean Virw revving

up for a whole new year of Key Club fun at freshmen orientation

and the start of school next month. Before that of course we

look forward to seeing your lovely faces and having blast by

meeting new friends of Region 3 at Beach Boomba. See you

there Dragons!

With summer reaching its halfway point, I'm excited to plan more

summer events as well as start thinking about what this year's

board will bring to the club during the upcoming school year. I'm

looking forward to spending Beach Boomba with the rest of

Region 3!

Catherine Le ,

Huntington Beach Key Club throughout the summer has been

invloved with the community in fundraising money for PTP as well as

spending hours volunteering at some huge events. Our board has

been active in Kiwanis by attending their meetings and advertising

their events to key club members. We look forward to making Hun-

tington Beach Key Club's reputation in the community more wide-

spread through volunteering at events and fundraising for good

causes.

Although July is in the middle of summer, the service and events

don't end! We look forward to joining Beach Boomba with all of

Region 3 members! Last year was an amazing experience

because I was able to have fun with many new members!

Tyler Nguyen ,

Tyra Choun,

Hector Bustos,

For this month Segerstrom Key Club worked on raising money

for PTP. For the upcoming month we hope our members attend

Beach Boomba and upcoming events that we have in store for

them! For the fall I hope that membership retention rises and

and donations rise too.

We recently just had a bake sale, which for the most part was

a success! I'd like to continue fundraising & finding more

events for our members in order to increase attendance

even more!

Nathan Vo ,

Page 7: Division 4 West | The Dragon Files | August Edition

Brianna Song , This past month has been very eventful with the pan-

cake event and doing firework booths. Later this

month, we're looking forward to Beach Boomba and

the Special Olympic World Games. Our goal this sum-

mer is to fundraise as much as possible! Remember

Dragon's- service never stops!

Remember to send in your summer

stories to [email protected]

For this summer so far I've helped organize and attend

events with my home club. I hope to organize a social

and service event in the near future for people to take

the time to get to know one another. I also home to

build a strong bond with our board so that we're able to

run a successful club.

At the beginning of this month we helped the Huntington

Beach Kiwanis with their fireworks booth. We also began

planning future events and are looking forward to volun-

teering at the Special Olympics, as well as spending

some time with Region 3 at Beach Boomba!

Cindy Nguyen ,

Summerfest On June 28th, we volunteered at the Summer Fest at the Fountain

Valley Recreation Center along with

Kiwanis. There, we helped set up the

booth itself and helped out with the

food court, which they as well need-

ed help. The managers also had us

clean up the tables and set up

trashcans near the food court. Tim

and Art, the Fountain Valley Kiwanis

Advisors had us organize the booth

and set up the grill. Overall, summer

fest was fun, as members began to

bond with each other while also

meeting other members from FVHS. As

people began finishing their shifts,

they hung out with their friends at the

park enjoying the rides and watching

the entertainment provided by the

fest's stage. The entertainment was

involved with volunteers who signed

up including some of our own mem-

bers who had before been shy when

it came to a big crowd. In the end

Summer Fest was a good experience

for our members to interact with their

community and meet some of the Ki-

wanis board members who have

been devoted to the community for

years.

Summerfest OTC was a fun yet educational experience to add on to our current

knowledge of how to be a better

board member. A fraction of our

board attended, and we got to

know people from different schools

along with different divisions. For the

first workshop, we split up by posi-

tion and went into the directed

rooms. The Vice President workshop

consisted of all the different Vice

Presidents from our region. By hav-

ing discussions on how to help out

club thrive, the most important thing

we learned was to assist our presi-

dent. For the second workshop, our

board once again split up to go to

what we thought was the most im-

portant thing to learn. The fundrais-

ing workshop gave me a broader

understanding of which organiza-

tions we donate to, and also what

different schools do to raise money.

Overall, OTC was entertaining yet

stimulating .

The first ever Dragon Games was an enjoyable event that helped us to get out

of our shells. After the DCM we were numbered

off into different groups to compete against one

another to see who would emerge victorious in

the end. Being put into random groups allowed

for people who wouldn't normally talk to one an-

other to make new friends. It was very entertain-

ing and exciting to see everyone battling it out,

messing around, and having fun. The groups ro-

tated and took turns facing off in different types

of games, such as relay races, volleyball, and wa-

ter balloon tosses. I hope that this will become an

annual event that we can continue to improve

on and make better each year since it is different

from our usual events.

My

Key

Clu

ory

Key Club is a crystal.

The core values, different

types of service events, ways

to reach out to the

community, and friendships

made, all contribute to a

beautiful ly multi -faceted

organization that I am proud

to be a key role in as a

member.

One of the facets of

Key Club is time. Things

change, people change, the

world changes. Time can be

wasted or spent in service. It

can be used to learn, grow,

and mature in leadership.

Over the span of my first and

freshman year, I’ve learned

that time in Key Club is the

most significant to me

because it teaches love of

s e r v i c e , c o n f i d e n c e ,

compassion, and how to hold

a level of humility in leadership

positions.

At the beginning of my

time in Key Club, I joined

through Club Rush because

the idea of a being part of a

high school community service

club piqued my interest.

Throughout my childhood, my

parents have set an example

of service through their

volunteering and having me

help as well in the church,

school, and community. Key

Club seemed like the perfect

continuation of this.

Over the months, Key

Club revealed more of its

crystal facets. I spoke with one

of my friends from a different

school and they too were in

this Key Club; collecting

money for the UNICEF Trick-Or-

Treat boxes. I didn’t even

known clubs could be inter-

school and this changed my

perspective in the sense I was

serving something on a much

larger scale. I learned Key

Club is more than club,

division, region, or district; it is

international.

Page 19: Division 4 West | The Dragon Files | August Edition

19

Deciding to go for club president has

made Key Club the pinnacle of my life and

awakened a passion and blistering happiness

in my heart in learning that every little thing I

work towards helps the club I serve grow, and

ultimately the Key Club, school, and city

community.

The first time I truly saw my reflection in

Key Club was was at the Kiwanis Family Fun

Day Easter Hunt, my first event as president.

From seeing the importance of our sponsoring

Kiwanis interaction, to connecting the club I

serve with other clubs, to the idea I have to

know and always be aware of what directions

the club it's being given; it was a real learning

experience.

One of the things enjoyable about Key

Club is that many service event gems recur

again. Past Kiwanis hosted events like Family

Fun Or Pancake Day, or international events

such as Eliminate Month and Fall Rally repeat

themselves annually so they sustain their

fundraising or service impact over and over

again.

Fundraising for preferred charities such

as Project Eliminate and Pediatric Trauma

Program, volunteering at local events, and

seeing children's smiles is absolutely

fascinating. But, it's being able to do this all

alongside fellow members aka family who

truly do define caring and inclusiveness as

their way of life.

At this point my Key Club story has many years

to keep building upon it with the gems of

service, caring, and learning key meaning of

our club's service in the world. Probably, the

clearest thing I have discovered this year is

that the most effective and passionate service

is changing the world not through one person,

but many <3
