Akron, Ohio was the site for this project that I was given the task of designing a bus stop with the abiltity to extend/ ex-pand its qualities and variety of programs to an urban scenario. The theme of the bus stop that I designed for the site in Akron was the “Bike vs. Bus. When I went to Akron to do precedent study on the atmosphere and the feel of the city the site needed more than just a bus stop. Throughout the project of the bus stop I wanted to keep the element of bicycling while incorporating the city. I incorporated the use of having a bicycling path through the pavilion that would extent to our next site. The name of the bicycle stop is called the “bike box” which resembles the bike boxes in Cleveland. There is already a bicycle path leading from Cleveland to Akron so I extended the use of the bike box by implementing one in the design of my pavilion. I used corten steel perforated panels to the North and East facades so that the space would have ventilation and still be a covered. The pavilion accommodates to pedestrians from all over the city like the University of Akron, Akron Art Museum and the many buildings in this area.

Architecture & Fashion Design Poster Competition

The focus of this graphic design poster competition was to create a poster, two intro boards, a nametag, and an email card to showcase the work done by the fashion program and the archi-tecture program while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. We wanted to create a logo and use a distinct graphic throughout the design that would be recognizable. We achieved this by using the first letters of architecture and fashion and wanted to have this be our distinctve logo that would be reconizeable. The colors we used for the logo were taken from the swatches that the fashion program was working with. Throghout the design we also implementing hand sketch-es of fashion croquis and the silhouette of the Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi. The group I was with won the design poster competition and our poster was displayed throughout both Kent State University’s in Florence, Italy.

For this project I had to take a series of photographs that framed a certain view of our choice. From these images I had to extract the details using various mixed medias and then develop a plan, section and elevation. I choose to use charcoal, pen/ pencil, and collage. From my photographs I developed and extracted the various lines that we prominent throughout my images. From this process of developing the details of photographs, I then developed a plan, section, and elevation that used the same ideas but could be represented three–dimensionally.

In this project I focused on the experiential qualities of the built environment and had to create an “atmo-sphere”. I had to choose an emotion, a sense, or an experience that created an atmosphere through entry-pas-sage-place. Throughout this project I mainly focused on the projects by Peter Zumthor and the instillations by James Turrell. I created an experience of seeing something from different points of view that would not normally be seen when directly looking into the space. I developed the concept by framing a view that would have multiple views when looked through from the other side that would create my entry-passage-place.

The task of this project was designing the exit for the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. I first started analyzing the site by organizing precedent studies for the existing exit now. What I observed about the space was that it could not accommodate for the amount of visitors leaving the Uffizi. The space needed to be more of an interactive and relaxed space so that it would accommodate pedestrians as well as visitors exiting the Uffizi. My proposal for the site was a large exit that would not only cater to visitors leaving the Uffizi but also be a space in the city where pedestrians could come and spend time at. I created two large passageways leading from the exit to the street so that visitors could gradually be transitioned into the city. For my exit I also had to design a bookstore and a cafe. For the design of the cafe, I wanted it to be accessible to everyone even the pedestrians outside the exit, by providing an indoor cafe that is open to the exterior. I also added more seat-ing by having an upper seating area above the bar, where vistors or pedestrians could go and exclude them-selves from the cluster inside the gallery.
