DLA Piper will provide a two year scholarship open to law undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study. The scholarship is open to high achieving students who would not otherwise have access to the role models, work experience, mentoring and financial assistance this programme will provide. By working closely with the next generation of local lawyers and business leaders, DLA Piper will support skills development, build capacity and promote the rule of law.

THE SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

DLA Piper will pay for the majority of tuition fees and associated costs over the two year period. Each scholarship will be tailored to the needs of the individual student, and will be revised by the Scholarships Manager at various points of the Programme.
ENGAGEMENT
■ Structured monthly meetings with the DLA Piper Scholarships Manager focused on personal and professional development.
■ Regular contact with a DLA Piper mentor.
■ Group activities in-country with other DLA Piper Fellows to develop a professional network.
■ Support to access further post graduate scholarships offered by third parties and other forms of financial assistance.
■ Dedicated support to ensure success in the workplace.
CAREER PREPARATION
■ Develop a career plan.
■ Develop a winning CV.
■ Complete group and one-on-one interview preparation training.
■ Participate in workshops and online learning to prepare you for the professional office environment.
■ Access to DLA Piper graduate training resources.

WORK EXPERIENCE
■ Complete training, mentoring and work readiness programmes at DLA Piper offices, leading global businesses and in the nonprofit sector in each year of the two year scholarship.
■ Develop structured workplace goals and objectives with your Scholarship Manager and mentor.
■ Spend time in a diverse and culturally aware workplace.
■ Deliver presentations to business leaders and receive formal performance feedback.
■ Receive regular support from a Scholarship Manager.
LEADERSHIP
■ Develop relationships with other students in the programme locally and nationally.
■ Complete world-class training programmes focused on leadership development and the rule of law.
■ Prepare for corporate and community leadership.
■ Network with successful industry and community leaders.
■ Become an alumnus and community leader.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:
■ Be entering your second last year of study in 2017
■ Currently be achieving, or be expected to achieve, a first class law degree

Applications should be submitted to DLA Piper via email: ([email protected]) or posted in the envelope provided. The deadline for submissions is 3rd April 2017. Please ensure that you include:
■ a copy of your transcript from your most recent/current academic study
■ a letter of reference (this should be written by a tutor, professor, or Dean of Law School)
■ a short essay, explaining the following points:
1. Why have you chosen to study law?
2. How would the scholarship benefit you? Please tell us how the programme fits with your personal and/or career objectives.
3. Demonstrate why you are an exceptional candidate and what achievements you have that will benefit the programme. You should include evidence of professional and personal skills which may include academic achievements, work experience/volunteering, and/or extra-curricular activities. Use this section to show how you have used leadership skills and initiative to deliver results on a project, for example.
