The DMM continues to have growth in membership across the district We have lost 222 members but have gained 186 new members. We have added 2 new clubs and you will also hear about several others that are being built within the DMM. In St Cloud we’ll be introducing a new committee called the Strategic Planning Committee that will be Chaired by Dave Martin. This committee is being formed to help the DMM and its membership decide the future direction of the district. It’s mission is to review all aspects of district responsibilities and make recom-mendations for operational procedures for the next 3-5 years. I encourage eve-ryone to attend the committee meetings, share your ideas and become an ac-tive member to help clubs build stronger youth and community programs, and build an even better more responsive DMM district. Are you a Builder of Excellence (BOE)? (a person who has built a new club). If you have a BOE medallion please wear it to the 3rd Qtr. meeting in St Cloud. If you are DMM member who would like to start a new club and you are not sure how to start the process talk to a BOE member who is wearing a medallion for assistance. “Together We Can!” THANK YOU, for all that you do……Be a Member, Get a Member……we need more help and more good folks joining as our team members and Optimists! Please read through the DMM Dispatch you’ll find a variety topics and articles from OI and DMM leadership to strengthen your club, find new youth, communi-ty and fund raising ideas. Growth / Membership — Our year is half over! Spring is here, bringing a renewed burst of energy, sunshine – and growth. While trees are budding and seeds are taking root, this is the perfect time to kick-start your own club growth – look for new ways to serve more youth – and make a larger impact on their lives. Hopefully, many clubs are taking advantage of the DMM Growth Contest - Checkout the many options to adding members with reduced rates at http://www.optimist.org/e/member/membership6.cfm , in addition to the option of $30 membership for any-one in the education field. There are also two incentives listed on the lower portion of this page. WOW, has it ever been easier? Let’s all take advantage of these incentives – have your own club contests. Share what “fertilizing” program your club is using to make those budding trees blossom with abundant growth. Looking for places to recruit new members? Losing the 42 members and the ability to serve 1470 youth is a bit disheartening, but we congratulate the mem-bers listed on page 6 that are cultivating their clubs with sharing Optimism with others and inviting them to join us in our continued mission to Bringing Out The Best!

Gita Hendricks – DMM Growth Chair Together We Can!

Two Growth Incentives . . . Free Membership for Graduating Seniors In order to help students remain Optimists, Optimist International is offering all Junior Optimists graduating from high school a free membership for any adult or college Optimist Club. Your Club will not be billed a $15.00 pro-cessing fee OR international dues for a full calendar year. This is a great opportunity for all Optimist Clubs. Please encourage any graduating Junior Optimists to take advantage of this opportunity by joining either their local Club, or a Club where they will be attending college. If your Club has a graduating Junior Optimist senior who wishes to take advantage of this offer, contact [email protected] or call 800-500-8130 ext. 226.

Win $500! Encouraging your Club Members to actively sponsor new Members is critical to the health of your Optimist Club. Unfortunately, 80% of Optimist Members have NEVER sponsored a new Member. In order to increase individual sponsorships, Optimist International will be giving away three $500 prizes for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter. The goal of these raffles is to increase Member sponsorships, especially among those Members who have never sponsored a new Member. For questions, contact [email protected].

Submit Your Club's Reel Optimism Video by April 14 Adult and Junior Optimist Clubs, in addition to non-Optimist community groups, nonprofits and individuals, can now submit their Reel Optimism video. Entries can be made in the Optimists in Action or Make Optimism Go Viral categories and should visually illustrate the topic of “Optimism.” The integrated contest hub will allow you to easi-ly upload your video by posting a YouTube, or Instagram link. Go to www.optimist.org/ReelOptimism for more information. The deadline to submit your Club’s video is April 14.

Remembering Lisa Eriksmoen The Minot Optimist Club would like to share our loss of our beloved member Lisa Eriksmoen. Lisa was the first woman president after the Magic City Optimist Club merged with the Optimist Club of Minot (Men). Past accomplishments were DMM Zone 13 Lt. Governor (1999-2000) and DMM Optimist of the Year (1997-98). Lisa served her second presidency in 2014-15 as a distinguished president. Lisa’s last contribution to the club was a donation to buy another hockey sled for children with disabilities. She loved hockey and chil-dren. She is missed by all who knew her. Need a shot of Optimism? Who ya gonna call? Ok, we may not be the Ghostbusters (remember that old movie?), but we are the Club Fitness Team – and we want to help your club get a check-up and a tune-up, so you can successfully grow your club by adding some new, younger folks who want to help ”Bring out the Best in Kids.” I know, I know, - you can't, or don't want to add new members. But without new folks with energy, ideas and a real desire to make a difference in a child's life, how is your club going to remain a posi-tive force, or role model, in your community. Ask us for help. We can help you to Renew, Refresh and Revital-ize your club, using new tools from Optimist International, as well as our own experiences and a bucket of new innovative ideas. Here's a quick road-map to success – and we'll talk more about each of them in the months to follow:

Take stock of where you are. Survey your members about what's right and what's wrong with your club and what they would like it to be.

Develop a plan on how to make those dreams happen (we will help) and set some time-lines and who is go-ing to help make it happen.

Start working that plan – find new ways to meet those goals, and we will help.

Set one initial goal – to add 3-5 new members before Sept. 30, and we will give you ideas on who to ask to join, how to do it, and where to find them.

So please, ask us, to help you again become the service club in your community that people (and especially the kids) look to for support and in putting smiles and bringing joy to the kids. The event, which is expected to draw more than 700 participants and bring about 1,000 visitors to the com-munity Aug. 17-20,

Another sporting event returning to the community for 2017 is the Optimist International Junior Golf District Qualifying Tournament, which relocated to Bismarck-Mandan from St. Paul, Minn., last year. The tournament is scheduled for June 16 at Riverwood Golf Course, said organizer Andrew Engelman. Last year, the tournament brought 47 golfers and about 115 visitors to the community, mostly from around North Dakota, but also from Minnesota and South Dakota, said Engelman, who indicated he’d like to see more than 60 golfers at the event this year and hopes to eventually make it a two-day event.

Youth Program! DMM Convention August 2017 Are you bringing your kids or grandkids to the DMM Optimist convention in Winnipeg? Plans are underway and we want to be sure to offer age appropriate activities, babysitters if needed, and have adequate transportation for the kids. Our plans include 5 pin bowling, the Assiniboine Zoo, a night at the movies, perhaps an escape room or go-kart racing. The youth program will be offered at a minimal cost, hopefully at no charge. I would love to hear from you now if you plan on bringing kids so we can fine tune our plans. If we don't hear from anyone, we will as-sume no kids are attending and halt all plans. ??? email me at [email protected]. Jo-Anne Pelzer Convention Co-chair
