THE DAN SWEAT AWARDBradley Currey, Jr. Mr. Currey served as Chief Executive Officer of Rock-Tenn Company, a publicly-held manufacturer of packaging and recycled paperboard products, from 1989 to 1999 and as Chairman of the Board of Rock-Tenn Company from 1993 to 2000, when he retired. He also previously served as President (1978-1995) and Chief Operating Officer (1978-1989) of Rock-Tenn Company. From 1953 until 1976, Mr. Currey was employed by Trust Company of Georgia, a publicly-held commercial bank and bank holding company, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and was a member of the Board of Directors from 1972-1976. Mr. Currey is Trustee Emeritus and a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Emory University. He is a Trustee Emeritus and past Chairman of the Board of the Woodruff Arts Center and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He is also a past Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The Dan Sweat Award Given in memory of Dan Sweat, past CAP President, who led the organization and Downtown Atlanta through very tumultuous times in the business and political environment of this City’s growth. The award, designed to honor his heritage and accomplishments, is given to business and/or organizational leaders who have exhibited those traits and become effective leaders beyond the scope of their positions in the community.

THE TURNER A WARDMarcia BansleyMarcia Bansley served as Executive Director of Trees Atlanta from 1985 to 2011. Ms. Bansley has been actively involved in the conservation movement in various capacities for twenty-four years. Her professional background includes serving as a law clerk to the Regional Counsel of the Environmental Protection Agency. She has been honored with several awards including the National Arbor Day Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Stafford Award, and Georgia’s Environmental Women of Action Award. Ms. Bansley assisted in the creation of a 2-acre park at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the preservation of a 31-acre City natural area, and has been involved in numerous other successful land preservation efforts.

The Turner Downtown Community Leadership Award. Started in 2003, the award was designed to recognize those in our community who, as individual private citizens, step forward and do good work on Downtown’s behalf. Recipients of this award rarely show up on the normal radar screen in the corporate and organizational leadership world. But just because they are out of sight, does not mean the value of their service and dedication is any less. Acting as private individuals to support causes without the backing of corporate budgets, makes successes at this level even more noteworthy.

Georgia is our home too. That’s why we’ve part-nered with organizations such as Central Atlanta Progress to stimulate growth and invest in the future of our communities. And why, for 85 years, we’ve helped bring jobs and investment to the state – more than 100,000 new jobs and $17 billion in capital investment over the past decade alone.
