24 February 2019 19th Annual Bishop’s Dinner

Dear Parishioners, What we celebrate at the Bishop’s Dinner is linked to the very mission of the Church, especially the evangeli-zation of people: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations”. With your help, you can make this possi-ble and contribute to the future of the Church. The yearly financial costs associated with studies for one seminarian is substantial, averaging $45,000 annual-ly. The future of our Church is bright with 32 seminarians currently in formation for ordination to the priest-hood. The funds needed to pay the total cost of formation of all seminarians this year alone nears $1.9 million dollars. The funds needed to meet the educational goals of our seminarians are being drawn mostly from re-serves at this time. We are working to find new funding from organizations, along with our Parishes and indi-viduals who understand the value associated with underwriting the cost of formation. My heartfelt hope is that you will join us in celebrating our local community leaders and seminarians as well as offering financial support to the 2019 Annual Bishop’s Dinner. You are cordially invited to attend the Bishops Annual Dinner on April 27th at 5:00 pm to be held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort, 74855 Country Club Dr., Palm Desert. Tickets for the dinner are $250 each or if you would like to Captain a table it is $2,500. You can also partici-pate by: Donate a gift basket Place a sponsored Ad in the program to the Honorees $1,000 for a Half page or $500 for a quarter page. Your seats can be reserved by contacting the David Dolores [email protected] or the parish office and speak with Karen [email protected]

Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is a Sacrament offered by the Church for healing in sickness. This sickness may be phys-ical, mental or emotional. Anyone of any age can receive the Sacrament as often as needed, but not usually not less than a 3 month period. Only a priest can offer the Sacra-ment of the Sick. The Church will do everything possible, in case of an emergency. However, it may be difficult if it is “last minute”. May this be a reminder to take advantage of the healing Sacraments of the Church~ For Sacrament of the Sick …

SCRIPTURE STUDY THE WISDOM LITERATURE of the BIBLE

In the history of wisdom literature, no tradition matches the solace and depth of the wisdom teachings of the Bible, which offers time-honored advice about some of life’s most difficult questions: What is the reward of a virtuous life? How can we best deal with the uncertainty of life? Why does evil exist? Why do bad things happen to good people? How does God show his interest and concern for us? Wisdom literature has to do with the human person, apart from the Old Testa-ment story of Israel as God’s chosen people, even though this literature is part of that larger story and also part of our story as people of the New Covenant with Jesus in the community of the Church. Instead, Wisdom literature ad-dresses the issues that are universal to all humans. Wisdom shows a “human face” in its concern with human nature and the human condition. Wisdom’s strength is universalism, as it looks at all people in their most universal, basic categories of good and evil, of parents and chil-dren, of women and men, of peasants and princes, of lazy and diligent. For countless people, these ancient writings have offered consolation and insights into the very meaning of existence. The Wisdom literature of the Bible still has much to teach us today. The Wisdom books which we will be studying include Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, the Song of Songs, and the Wisdom of Solomon, along with several sessions on Jesus as a Wisdom Teacher. This study will be offered on Monday 7:00 – 8:30 pm in the St. Augustine room of the John Paul II Center and is repeated on Thursday mornings from 9:00 – 10:30 am in the Parish Library. No registration is necessary, just join us at the time most convenient for you.

For more information, please call Mary Ann Andel at 987-9312 x 250.

Bishop Robert Barron UNTOLD BLESSING: Three Paths to Holiness 6 Sessions: February 27 – April 17

Our ultimate goal is to be a saint. It is our greatest calling and what is desired for us by our Creator. Bishop “Barron paints a beautiful and mysterious image of what it takes to be a holy follower of “the One who is, Jesus Christ.” In Untold Blessing: Three Paths to Holiness, he lays out three intriguing approaches to sanctity: finding the center, realizing that you are a sinner, and recognizing that your life is not about you. All adults and confirmed teens are invited to join us. Our study will start on February 27th and go through LENT. Please call Jenny Campbell in the parish office (ext. 243) to register and sign up for a study guide. Cost is $25 for the class per participant/couple.

Divine Mercy "Right from the begin-ning of my ministry in St. Peter’s See in Rome, I consider this message [of Divine Mercy] my special task. Providence has as-signed it to me in the present situation of man, the Church and the world. It could be said that precisely this situation assigned that message to me as my task before God." Luke 6:35-38

“Huwag

kayong humatol at hindi kayo hahatulan. Huwag kayong magparusa at hindi

kayo parurusahan. Magpatawad kayo at kayo'y patatawarin. Magbigay kayo at

kayo'y bibigyan din; hustong takal, siksik, liglig, at umaapaw pa ang ibibigay sa

inyo. Sapagkat ang panukat na ginagamit ninyo sa iba ay siya ring gagamiting

panukat sa inyo.”

(But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting

nothing back; then your reward will be great, and you will be children of

the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be

merciful, just as your Father is merciful. “Stop judging and you will not

be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive

and you will be forgiven. Give, and gifts will be given to you; a good

measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured

into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be

measured out to you.”)
