Collective WorshipPolicy
Like Our Lady, we live wisely, think deeply and love generously in Christ.
Mission Statement: Like Our Lady, we live wisely, think deeply and love generously in Christ
Policy Formation and Consultation Period
This policy was written by the RE Co-ordinator in accordance with the
guidelines set out by Liverpool Archdiocese.
This policy is reviewed on an annual basis.
Background Information:
Our Lady of Good Help Primary School has 150 boys and girls, aged 4-11
on roll who come from the residential area of Wavertree and its
surrounding areas. Within each year group there are identified pupils
with special educational needs.
OVERVIEWThe law requires all schools to provide a daily, collective act of worship
that is on most occasions wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian nature.
It need not be held at the same time each day .In this school we will
meet the requirements of the law in full. Where parents request it, their
children will be withdrawn from the collective worship and alternative
arrangements will be made for them.
OBJECTIVES
1. Each day all children will have the opportunity to participate in an
occasion of worship and reflection which is in line with our shared
Catholic faith and Gospel values.
2. A variety of different opportunities will be used to meet our statutory
duty.
3. Strong links will be made between spiritual, moral, social and cultural
education and religious education.
4. Collective worship will contribute to pupils’ experience of awe and
wonder.
5. A strong moral, reflective and social ethos will be created for worship
enabling children to enjoy music, singing and celebration.
6. Opportunities will exist throughout the year whereby our worship will
be used to help children understand and experience the meaning of
great religious festivals and holy days.
7. Collective worship will contribute to our school’s community cohesion
and will promote children’s spiritual, social, intellectual and moral
development. They will allow our children to develop qualities like
tolerance and understanding of other faiths and cultures.
STRATEGIES
1. The school will meet collectively to worship on a Monday and a Friday
through a whole school assembly and, on other occasions in different
groupings.
2. On other occasions worship will be held in classrooms at appropriate
times during the day and will be led by class teachers. These will be on
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
3. The children will have an opportunity say School Prayers throughout
the day. These will consist of a Morning Prayer, Grace Before Meals,
Grace After Meals, and an End of Day Prayer.
4. Children will learn some well-known prayers and hymns and these will
be used in worship.
5. Children will be given opportunities both to participate in worship and
to lead worship.
6. On at least one occasion during the year, the parents from each class
will be invited to participate in collective worship with the school known
as the family assembly.
7. Occasionally, visitors and guests will be brought in to address the
children and, where appropriate, lead acts of worship.
8. On special occasions, worship will be linked to religious and other
festivals such as Christmas and Easter in line with our Catholic/Christian
faith.
9. At Our Lady of Good Help staff and governors will liaise with the
Liverpool Archdiocese to keep updated with training needs and/or
developing Ecumenical matters which may affect our work in this area.
OUTCOMES
That the children of Our Lady of Good Help will be offered excellent
opportunities to experience enjoy and participate in a variety of different
kinds of acts of worship. They will have the opportunity to experience an
ethos conducive to spiritual development through prayer and reflection.
They will learn to develop positive attitudes to worship and worshiping
communities. Through collective worship learners will grow in spirituality
and experience awe and wonder. Each day the spiritual aim of our
mission statement will be delivered through collective worship so that
the children experience first-hand how like Our Lady they can, “live
wisely, think deeply and love generously in Christ.”
