true, but that's all they get.

3 When you help someone out, don't think about how it looks.

4 Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way

your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes,

helps you out.

1. They develop a private

relationship with God.

1 "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your

Father in heaven.

2. Giving.

Matthew 6:3-4 (NIV)

3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand

know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father,

who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

3. Praying.

Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then

your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Matthew 6:9 (NIV)

9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in

heaven.

4. Receiving and extending

forgiveness.

Matthew 6:14 (NIV)

14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your

heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Matthew 6:15 (NIV)

15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not

forgive your sins.

Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God

forgave you.

5. Fasting.

Matthew 6:17 (NIV)

17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,

Matthew 6:18 (NIV)

18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only

to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what

is done in secret, will reward you.
