At virtually no cost, social media is an effective way to communicate with your residents. You can connect with your residents with a click of a button, allow them to provide instant feedback, and respond to problems immediately.

This guide intends to provide you with suggestions on various ways you can leverage social media to maximize your reach.

Program Goals:

• Develop an ongoing (and cost free!) relationship with as many residents as possible, in order to provide them with the incentive and encouragement they need to become a better recycler.

• When you first start out, the focus should be on getting residents to sign up – for reminders, for notifications, and by taking the “What type of recycler are you?” quiz.

2. Post about the app on your municipality’s Facebook page.

Talk about some my-waste® / Recycle Coach™ features which addresses your residents’ needs.

Examples of posts: • “Check your personalized garbage and recycling collection schedule 24/7, on-the-go with your smartphone.”• “Not sure how to dispose of an item? Use the ‘What Goes Where?’ search tool!”• “Get holiday collection change reminders with the my-waste / Recycle Coach app!”• “Do you know what type of recycler you are? 3. Share the posts at the right time.

For maximum engagement, post when the users are online and active.

You can schedule your Twitter and Facebook posts ahead of time.

4. Share Recycle Coach Facebook posts.

Look out for fun, engaging, and education content that we post!

5. Post the same message multiple times.

Social media users don’t see the majority of your social media posts on any given day.

So posting multiple times to social media is an effective way to ensure your audience has a chance to see your content.

6. Run Facebook ad campaigns.
