Synopsis The writer highlighted how the most talented man in the

entertainment industry in Malaysia, P Ramlee was made to suffer

hardship in poverty in the last few years of his life before he passed

away. This article asked the reader to ponder about the same faith of

hardship a technology developer and inventor has to go through

    today.

Dont be too judgemental to brush talented people aside

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr P. Ramlee, (March 22, 1929 May 29, 1973) was a Malaysian film

actor, director, singer, songwriter, composer and producer. Due to his contributions to the

movie and music industry and his literary work, he is often considered the icon of Malay

entertainment in Malaysia, Singapore and Sumatra (especially in Aceh due to his ancestry).

    P. Ramlee was born Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Puteh, on the first day of the Eid festival,

which fell on 22 March 1929. His father, Teuku Nyak Puteh, was a sailor from Aceh, who

    later married Che Mah Hussain.

He attended Sekolah Melayu Kampung Jawa (Kampung Jawa Malay School) and Sekolah

Francis Light primary schools. Next he went to the famous Penang Free School secondary

school until the second World War broke out. During the Japanese occupation years in

Malaysia, he continued his studies at the Japanese Navy Academy. When the war ended, he

resumed his studies in Penang Free School. He was very active in sports.

On 27 May 1973, P. Ramlee died at the age of 44 from a heart attack and was buried in Jalan

Ampang Muslim Cemetery, in Kuala Lumpur. The death was a shock to the nation, and asense of collective guilt began to spread nationwide, as prior to his death he had been

discredited and rejected by his own nation, citing that he was a "has been" and that his

songs and film were no longer marketable.

In 1986, 13 years after his death, in honor of his contributions to the Malaysian

entertainment industry, the P. Ramlee Memorial or Pustaka Peringatan P. Ramlee was built

in his home in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. In 1982, the street Jalan Parry, in the center of Kuala

Lumpur, was renamed Jalan P. Ramlee in his honor.

On 31 October 2010, a 90-minute documentary on his life was aired on History Channel

Asia. It was also repeated over National Geography many times. And it is here that one can

see how this talented man has suffered humiliation by his own friends. P Ramlee died a

pauper. He lived in poverty during the last few years of his life. It makes me feel so sad and

depressed to see such a talented man going through so much bitterness and hardship in his

life. How can ones life be so pathetic I asked myself silently with tears rolling down my

    cheek watching this miserable autobiography

Even though P Ramlee was already a big name in the entertainment industry during histime, but banks and financial institutions shied-away from him. They did not lend P Ramlee

a hand at all when he reached-out for financial assistance for his projects.

To make matter worst, some of P Ramlee most trusted friends played him out. They stabbed

him on the back by spreading lies about him. They play dirty tricks and make sure P

Ramlees new projects did not take-off. They wanted him dead. And so, it did. P Ramlee, the

most talented person the country has ever produced was killed in

the entertainment industry. He also literally died as a human being.

You can see what a few lousy friends can do to a decent man. People are so absurd they

become jealous of P Ramlees talent. These people are simply jealous of his success. To

make matter worst P Ramlee's work is getting a lot of recognition and fame from overseas.

Awards came rolling from Tokyo, Taipei, Manila, Hong Kong and Singapore. But these no-

good friends are so jealous that P Ramlee is getting all the lime lights they are not. These

type people are simple evil. They do not know what damage and repercussion they can

cause by killing P Ramlee in the industry.

I also think in this country especially the financial sector still has not learned how to assist

talented people. The financial system that we have in this country today is still stuck with

the old way of doing business. For the same reason, P Ramlee could not get any financial

assistance 40 years ago, talented techies today are still not able to get financial assistance

    for their projects.

Im just wondering why we need to have programs to persuade Malaysian living in overseas

to come home to Malaysia to help the industry, when in the first place, we are pushing

them out of the country to do business. Isnt it silly?

Im also wondering why are we are giving honorific title to a person when he is already

dead. Why is the government not giving honorific titles to talent techies? Ive not seen any

one techie in the country being decorated in recognition for the technology that he has

    developed.

    Wake-up people!

Stop accepting rumours. Check your fact right first. Dont be too judgemental to brush

talented people aside. Give them due recognition. Support them. Support those

who deserved to be supported. Morally and financially. We do not want to see the P Ramlee

tragedy happening all over again and again. Year after year brains are being drained out of

the country. Year after year talented people are being banished into dark corners by

    fictitious lies.
