Fallen Hero Polar Plunge to Take Place Feb. 28

Shrimp Caponata

On March 29th, 2015 at 9am nearly 2,000 runners will start the running of the 17th Ocean Drive Marathon. The annual Ocean Drive Marathon (a USATF-NJ 500 point Grand Prix event) is run on a USATF measured and certified qualifying course (NJ12009LMB).....relevant for those events requiring a qualifying time. The Ocean Drive Marathon has two certified compan-ion events and one just to get the heart rate going. OD 10-Miler, also a USATF-NJ 500 point Grand Prix event, runs concurrently with the ODMarathon, finish-ing at the ODM 10-Mile Mark on the Boardwalk in North Wildwood. This course is USATF certified. (NJ12010LMB). The OD 5K starts at 10:00 AM and is run on an out-and-back course from (and to) the Marathon Finish Line on the Prom-

enade at JFK Boulevard in Sea Isle City. USATF certifica-tion number NJ12011LMB.

As we are a non-profit charitable organization, we rely on public contributions of community leaders that, to date, have enabled us to donate over $200,000 to some very worthy or-ganizations in the Cape May County community. Ocean Drive Marathon has multiple beneficiaries ev-ery year. This year we are pleased to have The Max Cure Foundation join. Free Pizza, Family Movie Night

WEST CAPE MAY -- The West Cape May Environmental Commission presents Free Pizza and Family Movie Night from 6-8 pm on Feb. 27 at West Cape May Boro Hall, 732 Broadway, West Cape May. The movie, Epic, is an animated adventure from the creators of Ice Age and Rio.

Epic was inspired by the characters in William Joyce's children's book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. The story centers on a teenage girl who is transported to the magical world of the forest. She is recruited by a nature spirit to help the ‘leafmen’ protect and save the forest, its’ eco system and all the creatures that live there. This movie has a subtle eco message. In a most entertain-ing way, Epic shows that the world of nature is a very fantastic and magical place that is fun to explore but also needs our help to stay protected for future generations.

This is a fun family movie that is rated PG. Free pizza will be offered at 6 p.m. Before the movie, local artist/teacher, Janet Payne, will lead children in creating their own ‘leafmen’ and ‘nature fairies’ from pinecones and other natural materials.

Do the Shore recently caught up with one of the shore's favorite DJ's, DJ Denny Oh. Find out what he has to say about his own start as an enter-tainer and advice he has for upcoming DJ's.

When did you start DJing and what/who were your early inFLuencers?

A local entertainer with enormous talent named Jon Katity first asked me to guest DJ with him at the Ugly Mug in 2012. He graciously stepped aside and let me take the reigns during his "Terrible Tuesday" weekly gig there, and it was a crash course in DJing to say the least. I took that momentum and never looked back. Aside from Jon, I also look up to DJs & Producers like Diplo, Dillon Francis and the rest of the Mad Decent Crew.

What are currently your main challenges?

In a time when electronic dance music and DJing in general is so oversaturated, it's tough to find a voice in the crowd. I do my best to create sets that personify myself as an individual, while also speaking to the tastes and trends that we all share in 2015. I challenge myself to find that

happy medium between playing the hits and also mixing in something that might spark a new musical interest. THAT is what makes my job worthwhile.

Where are you currently DJing and what do you have planned for summer 2015?

I'm super stoked to have a home every Friday night at the Dogtooth Bar & Grill and every Wednesday and Saturday night at Goodnight Irenes. I'm also looking forward to the warmer weather and my tuesday night parties at Cabanas Beach Bar in Cape May. Memorial Day is almost here!

What advice would you give to upcoming DJs?

Take your time and do the research that this craft de-serves. Don't Google the Billboard top 40 and call yourself the next Calvin Harris. Learn your audience, and play to the crowd. In time you will be able to take bigger risks and throw a party your way.Start small, be humble, and work your way up from there.

When you play, is it a planned set?

As an open format DJ, I try to come to a gig with a musical library that spans all genres. No two nights are the same in south Jersey, and the varying crowd definitely keeps me on my toes. Yes, there are several songs that you know are going to be winners, but the rest of the night is based off of the energy that the crowd provides.

Memorial Weekend Concert with The

present The “Music of The Glenn Miller Orchestra!” This high energy big band concert will take place on Saturday, May 23, at 7:00 PM at the historic Ocean City Music Pier. Joining the orchestra this year will be special guest artists, The Victory Belles.

The National WWII Museum's Victory Belles are an elegant and charming vocal trio who travel the globe delighting audiences with their spirited performances, which feature dazzling costumes, audience interaction, and musical hits to include Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, Chattanooga Choo Choo, God Bless America, and the Service Medley, all sung in rich, three-part harmony. The Victory Belles represent the patriotic fabric of World War II America in keeping the sentimental musical history of the 40s alive. They have performed at hundreds of military, veteran and civilian events around the world to include the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Ceremony, Ellis Island, USO Galas in Japan and Hawaii, The National Anthem at the Saints NFL football game, the USO Guam Six Star Salute, on board the USS WASP, and with several military bands across the country to include West Point. The Victory Belles are proud to serve as ambassadors of The National WWII Museum and are honored to salute our nation's veterans in song!

This special Glenn Miller tribute show which will include all of Miller’s top hits. The pops will present the original Miller arrangements of “ In the Mood”, “String of Pearls,” “ Tuxedo Junction”, “ Pennsylvania 6500”, “ American Patrol”, “ Moonlight Serenade”, “ St. Louis Blues”, “ When Johnny Comes Marching Home”, “ Chattanooga Choo Choo”,” Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” plus some original arrangements in the style of Miller.

The Jersey Shore Pops is a big band orchestra with string section, modeled after the orchestras of the Frank Sinatra era which featured a string section along with the bid band

sounds. The orchestra was founded by entertainer and conductor Linda Gentille in 2009. The orchestra features 25 of the finest New Jersey musicians either born or based in New Jersey. Many Philly Pops fans have become season ticket holders for the Jersey Shore Pops because of the reasonable ticket prices and great production value of the shows.

What has made the Jersey Shore Pops the most success-ful new big band orchestra in New Jersey is Gentille along with her unique on stage showmanship. As a major head-liner, she has performed on stages around the world. Pops president Dr. Nick Holland sums it up:” Gentille’s unique musical style of conducting while performing amazing feats on the piano has made this a must see show in Cape May. Her unique and original orchestrations sets her apart from all the other pianist conductors in the nation.”

The individual tickets will range from $25 for balcony seating to $40 for VIP orchestra center seating. Tickets at the door will increase to $30 -$45 so advance purchases are encouraged to avoid long will call lines.

This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. The funds were administered by the Cape May County Culture and Heritage Commission, under the authority of the County Library Commission, for the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
