[email protected] Pam Kealy x.12 Receptionist / Children’s / Youth [email protected] Dear FBC Family, It’s strange to say it, but the endless rapping of hammers, the falling debris crashing outside of my office window, and the muffled voices of construction workers (and their Rock Music) has been down right musical! And every time I walk out of this facility and see the stark contrast between the disappearing blight of our old siding and the increasing beauty of the new, I become more and more proud of our church and excited about our future. In fact, I have had a growing sense that God is using the refurbishing of the exterior and our plans for the interior to focus our attention on something far more significant : where does He want our church to be in 10 years, and what are we doing to get there? Put differently, looking at the decade that lays before us, where does God want us to carry our amazing 127-year legacy? And how will we strategically invest in tomorrow’s church today? And just as I’m sure that the answers to these question will involve matters as practical as renovating our building, I’m more than con- vinced that the answers will have everything to do with how we think about and strategically relate to our community today and into the near future. This gets me excited. I can’t wait to see what God does! As we’ve shared before, a Capital Campaign Organizing Committee was formed in late 2015 and began meeting on January 9 th to assess the best fundraising approach for our church family at this time. Recall that our prayers and plans are not just to pay off our new exterior (Tier 1), but also to seriously reconsider an elevator (Tier 2) and some significant interior upgrades (Tier 3). The com- mittee has made a number of thoughtful and detailed recommendations. Here are a couple that you need to know about: 1. The committee recommends an “in-house” fundraising effort led by a (yet to be formed) Capital Campaign Coordinating Committee. 2. The committee recommends that the capital campaign officially begin on October 1 st 2016. As to (2), we had initially talked about a spring campaign. The recommendation for a Fall Launch, however, will allow us to plan the campaign with less haste and for greater impact. Also, this time will be important for us to gain greater clarity on the future that God wants us to walk towards as a Church. As to (1), after assessing the pros and cons of different approaches, the team is more than confident that WE can do this. I believe we can as well. Very soon we’ll be recruiting members to populate the Campaign Coordinating Committee. Would YOU (yeah, I’m talking to YOU who are reading this) prayerfully consider joining this team? As we move forward, I would appeal to every member and attender of FBC to make it a regular pe- tition to God that he would use this season to reposition our church in our community to have a greater impact on the families of Shelton and Mason County with the Gospel of Jesus. Isn’t that what it’s all about! Pray for what our church should be like in ten years; that we might have the greatest influence on our region. And that God would reveal the steps and grant the willingness for us to get there. Would you put those petitions on a sticky note and place them on your refrigerator, bathroom mirror, front of your Bible, or wherever you’d get the reminder. Buildings and programs are just tools in service of God’s Mission. To be passionate about building upgrades and programs instead of God’s Mission is backwards. God’s Mission has to be at the forefront of our minds. This proper arranging of priorities will help us shape the tools for such a time as this, and to use them to their greatest God-given potential. Lastly, when you see them, please thank the following members of our Capital Campaign Organizing Committee for their hard work. They deserve it.
