CLASSES VI-VIII - JANUARY TO MARCH- 2017-18
The successful completion of the academic year 2017-18, gave immense pride and strength for the entire DPS family
to work together with more enthusiasm and audacity. It marked the completion of the effort taken from the
students, teachers and parents to strive more for further excellence. DPS-MIS has added yet another glory to its
throne by becoming the centre for Board Examinations for classes X and XII, where it became the platform for
around 840 children from Birla Public School, Shantiniketan Indian School and Noble International School to put
forward their entire effort for the amalgamation of their academics.The entire DPS family wishes everyone an
evocative and fruitful year ahead!
In the 30th CBSE Gulf Principals’Conference, under
the aegis of Council of CBSE Affiliated Schools in the
Gulf region, Principal Ms.Asna Nafees received the
award for her school which topped in the Qatar
chapter by bagging the Toppers’ award in the Science
stream in the CBSE class 12 Board exams. MS Asna
Nafees was being honoured for the fifth consecutive
year and that was her crowning achievement!

Five teams of budding scientists from DPS-Modern Indian
School bagged 5 positions out of 6 in the Shastrapradarshan
Competition organized by Science India Forum recently.

work on the project “Finding a correlation between
sleep and academic performance.”

All sections of Grade VI presented the assemblies based on the theme ‘The power to
adapt is the key to a happy life’. Each assembly began with the prayer, followed by a
wonderful thought on “happiness’’ and its true value. The DPS mission & vision
statement were read and the Indian pledge was taken and then came the news readers
who updated us with latest happenings around the globe. Each assembly was graced
by our Academic Coordinator, Ms. Rachel Alwyn &Activity Coordinator Ms. Deepa
Chakraborty a Special Guest who was invited individually for the assembly.
CLASS VI ASSEMBLY
DPS-MIS CONDUCTED A WORKSHOP TO HONE THE LIFE-SKILLS OF ITS STUDENTS 2017-18
Believing that abilities for positive and adaptive behavior, enable students to deal
effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life, DPS-Modern Indian
School conducted a workshop for its students on the topic 'Life through the corridors
of Happiness' to highlight the importance of life skills in pursuit of academic and
personal excellence. The resource person, Mr. Adil Abdul Aziz, Chief Finance Officer,
Dyarco International Company, in his awe-inspiring speech highlighted the
parameters of happiness and guided them to adopt a constructive approach to
calibrate success.
DPS-MIS WINS FIRST RUNNER UP IN BRAIN BATTLE QUIZ
DPS-MIS whiz kids bagged the 1st Runner- up Trophy in
Brain Battle inter-school Quiz contest organized by
Association of NSS Engineering College Ex Students (Annex)
2018 at Birla Public School on January 5, 2018. The quiz show
was conducted by a celebrated quizmaster, Mr. G. S Pradeep,
a renowned anchor of television quiz shows in India.
DPS WINS ACCOLADES IN “NATIONAL CREATIVITY BY SMALL HANDS OF 2017.”
DPS-Modern Indian School participated in the art
competition, organized by The Girls Innovation Centre of
The Ministry of Culture and Sports, Doha to celebrate the
Qatar National Day.Siddhi Prasad from grade 8th won the
second place and Siddhika Shaw from grade 7th achieved
third place on 05th December 2017 at the exhibition and
conference Hall in Girl's Innovation Centre at the Second
Qatar Youth Forum, Al Booth.
REVISION EXAMINATION FOR VI TO VIII Revision examination was conducted for Grade VI to VIII in the month of January to prepare students for the Annual Examination.
REMEDIAL CLASSES CONDUCTED FOR CLASSES VI TO VIII
Remedial classes for all subjects were conducted for classes VI to VIII for the Annual Examinations in the month of March from 7.15 am to 1.45 pm during the preparatory holidays.
Annual examination for the academic year, 2017-18 for classes VI to VIII was conducted from 01 March to 14
March. Answer scripts, after evaluation were distributed to children on 18 March, 2018.Result declaration along
with Report card distribution was done on 25 March, 2018. Children maintained consistency in the number of
Proficiency, Scholar Badge and 100% Attendance.
ANNUAL EXAMINATION
DPS-MIS students have emerged champions in the
Mathemagic Competition, the Inter-School Quiz Contest
organised by Qatar Gas & Ras Gas and hosted by the Al
Khor International School.This noteworthy contest, held
since 2003, yet again proved its ability to give a tough
competition and bring out the best mathematicians from
Grade VIII and IX.
DPS students have proven their might in the battle of words once again in QSDL league 2 which took place at Hassan Bin Thabit Secondary School for Boys on the 10th of February 2018. 138 debaters, 27 schools and 46 teams across different schools in Qatar gave a tough fight to qualify in the National Championship in the coming month.

ACTIVITY CORNER
The 69th Republic Day of India was celebrated in all its solemnity and
grandeur at DPS-Modern Indian School on 26th January, 2018. The school
premises adorned a vibrant look and reflected the colors of patriotism
through tricolor embellishment. The inspirational words of Principal, Ms.Asna
Nafees evoked the feeling of allegiance and commitment in the young hearts.
As a part of school's safety awareness program, DPS-Modern Indian
School organized the 'School Safety Day' on January 18, 2017. An
array of activities were conducted with an aim to sensitize the
students to some of the major safety concerns and reinforce the safety
rules.
DPS-MIS SRISHTI Garnered Huge Appreciation from the Visitors
As part of the commitment to teaching of Qatar History, the exhibition had a Qatar History Corner. Models
showcasing the rich heritage of Qatar-its archeological sites, supertall skyline, ecofriendly stadiums for FIFA
World Cup 2022, Hamad International Airport, Qatar's dream project Metro Rail, Public services at Qatar and
other innovative projects highlighting Qatar's Vision 2030, transfixed the visitors and garnered a huge
appreciation.

SCHOOL SAFETY DAY AT DPS-MIS
DPS BAGGED THE MATHEMAGIC TROPHY FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
DPS-MIS has once again taken the initiative and
risen to the possible occasion of an emergency by
making sure the staff is trained in the basic
emergency procedures and are aware of the safety
equipment available at hand. The workshop
conducted for Fire Warden. Training stressed the
importance of safety and security in case of a fire
emergency in the school premises. The basic
knowledge of the emergency evacuation was
fortified by the training program as it provided a
practical approach to an emergency situation.
DPS CONDUCTED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR ITS TEACHERS
DPS-MIS conducted its fourth series of workshop on professional development programme on STRESS MANAGEMENT & SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS IN CHILDREN, for the academic year, 2017-18 on 18 January, 2018. All teachers from Nursery to XII attended it to nourish and enhance their teaching skills. The resource persons for the event were Mr. Jose Thomas, CBSE Coordinator, Ms. Amanda Dias, Special Educator and Ms. Sumati Ramachandran, Senior School Counsellor.
WORKSHOP ON CORE SKILLS
An orientation programme for the faculty members of English, Science and Social Studies of Grade I to
VIII, was conducted in two sessions on 26 March, 2018, at DPS-MIS. Ms. Sapna Sukul, in her
enlightening session, emphasized on the basic core skills such as critical thinking, creativity and
imagination, communication and collaboration to enhance teaching learning process.
FIRE WARDEN TRAINING FOR THE FACULTIES OF DPS-MIS
With the onset of pleasant weather in Qatar, the DPS-Modern Indian School organized recreational trips for classes
VI to VIII. The students were taken to explore the beauty of Alkhor Park located in the outskirts of Doha. Songs,
snacks and excitement made the journey a befitting and fun-filled day.
ANNUAL TRIP
HEARTFULNESS MEDITATION
Teaching is an on-going learning process and to become a successful teacher one has to go beyond textbooks and be equipped with the latest teaching methods and technologies. Keeping this in mind, DPS staff geared up to attend a two-day session on Heartfulness-Learn to meditate.The Heartfulness facilitator, Ms. Padmini Sundar, trained the teachers on stress management and emphasized on developing intuition, compassion, kindness and love to create a healthy and happy atmosphere around.
DPS FELICITATED AND APPRECIATED SUPPORT STAFF
DPS-Modern Indian School organized the Support
Staff Felicitation Function on the 1st February, 2018
to acknowledge and appreciate the immense
contribution of the support staff, comprising
members of the Housekeeping, Transport and
Security departments, in the smooth functioning of
the school.
In an effort to popularize the beautiful ancient language, Sanskrit, Samanvayam, affiliated to Indian Embassy's,
ICC celebrated Samskritam Dinam on February 15, 2018. 56 DPS-MIS students participated in the competitions
and 20 of them won the first, second and third positions in Sub Junior ( upto grade 2) Junior ( grade 3-5), Senior 1
( grade 6-8)& Senior 2 (9&10) categories. Winners were awarded during Samskritam Day celebration, graced by
eminent personalities, Sanskrit scholars and other dignitaries from India and Qatar.

SPORTS CORNER
Rendezvous Sports was conducted for the middle school in the month of February. Students displayed their
sportsman skills with enough competitive spirit and Lily house emerged as winners in the sports category.

EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO AUSTRIA & CZECH REPUBLIC 2018-19
DPS-Modern Indian School organized its annual overseas educational trip to Austria and Czech Republic to explore the beauty of their medieval cities and get a hands-on experience. It was indeed a thrilling,amazing and memorable experience that enabled the students to be more active and effective learners and inculcated the values of punctuality,endurance and team -spirit in them.
