Dr. Jay Hollander Earns National Award for Excellence in Medical Education Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) congratulates Beaumont Health Urology Residency Program Director Jay Hollander, M.D. for receiving the prestigious Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award for Program Director Excellence from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). According to Jeffrey M. Devries, M.D., M.P.H., associate dean for Graduate Medical Education and professor, department of Pediatrics, it is Dr. Hollander’s dedication to excellence in his program director role that earned him this honor. “This national recognition actually comes as no surprise to those of us at Beaumont who have been privileged to witness Jay’s excellence which includes setting the bar, both locally and nationally, for excellence in recruiting, teaching, supervising, personal/professional mentoring, promoting research, generating professionalism, fostering resident wellness, and successfully placing his graduates in the most competitive practices and fellowships,” says Dr. Devries. In addition to earning the acclaim of his residents and faculty colleagues on an annual basis, Dr. Hollander’s graduates have honored his commitment to their success by establishing an educational endowment fund in his honor. “I am unaware of any other institution that has had two consecutive winners… nor an educational institution that is batting 1.000 nominees actually winning the award,” says Dr. Devries, referring to last year’s winner Pediatric Program Director Kalli Doyle, M.D. “This is a tremendous recognition and a tribute to a skilled and highly professional cadre of program directors at Beaumont. We have many program directors who are deserving of awards for excellence on a national playing field, and I anticipate that additional Beaumont program directors will follow in the winning footsteps of Kalli and Jay.” Dr. Hollander is the Co-course Director for Renal Organ Systems at OUWB.
