15 So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of the month Elul, in fifty-two days. 16 And it came about when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations surrounding us saw it, they lost their confidence; for they recognized that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God. Dear HBC Family,
I must admit I find it a struggle in knowing how to start this letter to our church family. Partially because I have been here for only four months and partially because I know one day I will stand before the Lord and give an account for the influence I cast. I know for certain that the Lord has brought me here and I am to lead you in doing God’s will. I also know the Lord said the world would know us as His followers by the love we have for one another. Lurking in the background, however, is the father of lies (also known as Satan) who would love nothing more than to use a building project to distract and divide God’s people from doing God’s work. We must guard ourselves from his wicked scheming as we seek the Lord’s will in building. Anybody who is connected to Hillcrest Baptist Church in any manner knows we need to expand our facilities. We have outgrown what we have and are continuing to grow by God’s grace. I believe the church elected a competent team who has given consideration to every conceivable ministry and included such as input into the prospective plans. The phase of plans we are asking the church to vote on on June 23, 2013 would provide space for education, fellowship, recreation, ministerial staff, senior adults, choir and children. The plans also include a much- needed renovation to allow for better traffic flow and a larger and quieter welcome area. They do not include the youth, but in our first night of discussion the suggestion was made to provide funding for some changes to the student building (old sanctuary). In other words, the plans are as inclusive of all ministries as much as possible. The motion cast by the Building Team for June 23 is to seek approval of the plans, to secure drawings of such, and then allow bidding to take place. It does not mean we will go to building everything at once. A capital fundraising team would have to be elected and a campaign completed. Depending upon the results of the campaign, we would then have all of the information in hand to make a well informed decision on exactly what to construct first and what other monies would have to be secured to complete the entirety of the proposed plans. I hope we can all agree we must do with what God provides and make a sound judgment that if we must borrow we are for certain we can pay it back promptly without disturbing our ability to carry on with missions and ministry. Reaching souls for the Lord’s kingdom is of utmost importance. If Christ raptures the Church before or soon after we complete construction, I would want people to be able to see we used all God had given us to point others to Him. I would want them to see our budget still reflected giving to missions, to church plants, to win souls and to make disciples. I believe we can build and still do these things, but we must be as intentional as we have been in the past and as generous in our giving as well. I am asking for you to join with me in praying fervently about this matter between now and June 23. On that day, I would ask that you cast your ballot based upon what the Holy Spirit has laid upon your heart and upon your willingness to faithfully be financially supportive until the building is paid for. From now until then and until the Lord returns I pray the people of Hillcrest Baptist Church and all of her buildings will be vessels of use for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ! In Christ,

Pictured below is the general floor plan for Phase 1 of expansion. This plan is a result of two years of working with Myler - the Church Building People in developing touches to as many ministries as possible. (see Figure 1) On the bottom of the page are some of the items/ministries addressed by this diagram. Figures 2-4 include traffic flow and zooms of the various portions. In the initial presentation of the proposed plan, a suggestion was made to include seating for spectators of recreational ministries. Those additional changes to this plan are pictured on the opposite page in Figures 5-6. Figures 7-8 show artist renderings of the entire HBC property including projected parking areas.
