Dec 2006 to April 2013: Graduate Research Scholar, IIT Kanpur, India Thesis title: Parallel architecture based fast algorithms for tomographic inversion using
algebraic reconstruction methodology
Thesis Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Phalguni Gupta, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Kanpur
Prof. Dr. Prabhat Munshi, Nuclear Engineering & Technology Programme, IIT Kanpur
The work is related to design and develop fast tomographic algorithm for 2D as well as 3D
reconstruction. I have used algebraic reconstruction method for the reconstruction and modify
them to make suitable for implementation on personal computers and also on GPU. A single-
View multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique has been devised and implemented. This
algorithm has been tested on numerical phantom as well as on real data. A multi-processor and
multi-GPU based algorithm has been devised and implemented on cluster of GPUs. The results
show speed-up of an order of magnitude without compromising with quality of reconstruction.
Dec 2012 to March 2013: Senior Student Research Associate, IIT Kanpur Project: Compressive strength evaluation of ceramics and composites at high strain rate
The project includes non destructive study of ceramics and composites. It also includes the study
of these materials’s behavior when exposed to high strain.
July 2012 to Nov 2012: Graduate Research Scholar, IIT Kanpur Project: Installation and implementation of Micro-CT scanner at IIT Kanpur
The project includes the installation of Micro-CT scanner obtained from Procon, Germany. The
project includes the training of Senior Student Research associates as a trained operator of the
CT scanner. This facility includes non destructive testing of solids up-to 7 micron resolution. It
enables us to detect the flaws presents in solids.
Aug 2011 to March 2012: Graduate Research Scholar, IIT Kanpur, India Project: Design and Installation of GPU cluster at IIT Kanpur
The project starts with the design of cluster, procurement and the installation. End users
applications and training was also done at the final stage of the project.
Jan 2010 to March 2011: Graduate Research Scholar, IIT Kanpur, India Project: Development of tomographic code for image reconstruction from visible radiation from
ADITYA and SST-1 Tokamak plasma.
The work was related to develop a tomographic code to know the distribution of plasma and
impurities present in it at a particular cross section of ADITYA and SST-1 Tokamak at Institute
of Plasma Research (IPR), India.
April 2009 to Dec 2009: Graduate Research Scholar, IIT Kanpur, India Project: Development of tomographic algorithms for digital radiography system of VSSC.
The work was related to design and develop, 3-dimensional reconstruction algorithm on personal
computer for digital radiography system of Vikram Sara Bhai Space Center (VSSC), India.
4
July 2008 to Dec 2008: Student Research Associate, IIT Kanpur, India Project: Cancer Growth and Kanpur Error Theorems.
The work was related to develop a methodology by which we can precisely know the
effectiveness of medical treatment and cancer growth non-destructively.
