Additional Requirements• Coats Dual Duty XP® All-purpose thread in colors
to match fabrics• 58” x 58” (147.32cm x 147.32cm) batting• Hand-quilting needles• Fabric glue• Paper scissors• Paper for printing templates• Basic sewing and pressing supplies
PreparationPrint the required number of templates needed for each piece and cut out with paper scissors. Note that there is a sheet with multiple nested diamonds to make that tem-plate cutting easier, but DO NOT use that sheet for fabric cutting as there are no seam allowances included.
CuttingFabric A, cut:(4) 251⁄2’’ x (64.77cm) squares, for background
Fabric F, cut:Enough 2½” (6.35cm) bias strips to make 212’’ (538.48cm) of finished binding
Remaining Fabrics:Review the template sheets for the quantity and specific fabric(s) required for each piece. Pin a paper template to one or more layers of fabric. Cut out around the template adding a 3⁄8’’ (.95cm) seam allowance on all sides (Fig. 1). Turn the template over to make reversed pieces (indicat-ed by REV on the template) as needed.
Fig. 1
Sewing1. Place a paper template right side down on the wrong
side of the designated fabric, apply glue around the template edge (Fig. 2), then fold the seam allowances around the template, tucking in corners as needed. Turn the template over to make a Reverse (Rev) piece when required.
Fig. 2
2. Using Figures 3 on page 4 and 4a/4b on page 5 for placement of the pieces, place two adjacent fabric covered templates right sides together, aligning the edges to be joined. Clip or hold the pieces firmly together (Fig. 5).

TIP: Work from the center outward for best results and gently ease curved pieces together.
3. Begin stitching about 1⁄8’’ (.32cm) from one end using a tiny whipstitch and catching a thread of both pieces (Fig. 6).
Fig. 6
4. Sew to the opposite end and take a backstitch, then knot your thread (Fig. 7).
Fig. 7
5. Open the joined pieces and check the seam from the right side. The stitches should not show--if they do, take smaller stitches and catch less of the fabric as you sew.
6. Remove the paper template only after all sides have been stitched to another piece.
Quilt Top Assembly7. Sew the Fabric A squares together to make a 501⁄2’’
(128.27cm) square. Press seams open.8. Center the completed pieced medallion using the
background seamlines and medallion quarter lines as a guide. Baste the completed piece to hold it in place. Hand appliqué the edges to hold the medallion securely onto the background, carefully tucking in any extending dog ears at the corners as you sew.
9. Remove the basting stitches and quilt as desired
Finishing10. Sew together the 21⁄2” (6.35cm) Fabric F binding
strips end to end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together.
11. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed.
12. Leaving an 8” (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12” (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the
binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1⁄4” (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt.
13. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place.
