Song of Praise

(Please honk just twice, and only at the end of each verse)

If you’re happy and you know it, honk your horn. If you’re happy and you know it, honk your horn. If you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show it, If you’re happy and you know it, honk your horn. (Beep, Beep) If you’re blessed and you know it, honk your horn. If you’re blessed and you know it, honk your horn. If you’re blessed and you know it, and you really want to show it, If you’re blessed and you know it, honk your horn. (Beep, Beep) If you know that Jesus loves you, honk your horn. If you know that Jesus loves you, honk your horn. If you know that Jesus loves you, and you really want to show it, If you know that Jesus loves you, honk your horn. (Beep, Beep)

Prayer of the Day

O God our defender, storms rage around and within us and cause us to be afraid. Rescue your people from despair, deliver your sons and daughters from fear, and preserve us in the faith of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Holy Baptism Lennon Elizabeth Braatz and Jameson Jensen Braatz

Profession of Faith

I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church.

Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God? I renounce them.

Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? I renounce them.

Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? I renounce them.

Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God, the powers of this world that rebel against God, and the ways of sin that draw you from God? I renounce them.

Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Let us welcome the newly baptized… We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share. We rejoice with you in the life of baptism. Together we will give thanks and praise to God and proclaim the good news to all the world. We join together in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God’s creative and re-deeming word to all the world.

Baptism Song One Child Rebecca Seevers

Word

First Reading: Romans 10:5-10

5 Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that “the person who does these things will live by them.” 6 But the righteousness that comes from faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Responsive Reading: Psalm 85:8-13

8 I will listen to what the Lord God is saying; for you speak peace to your faithful people and to those who turn their hearts to you. 9 Truly, your salvation is very near to those who fear you, that your glory may dwell in our land. 10 Steadfast love and faithfulness have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. 11 Faithfulness shall spring up from the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. 12 The Lord will indeed grant prosperity, and our land will yield its increase. 13 Righteousness shall go before the Lord and shall prepare for God a pathway.

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33

22 [Jesus] made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side [of the Sea of Galilee], while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. 25 And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. 26But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” 28 Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Jesus im-mediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” The Gospel of Our Lord. Thanks be to God.

Prayers of Intercession

After each portion of the prayers, the response is… Lord in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Prayer requests may be submitted during the livestream by making a ‘comment’ in Facebook or by sending an email before Sunday to [email protected].

You may also call the church office during the week at 262-968-3322 or submit a prayer request on our website here.

Sharing the Peace of Christ

Jesus taught that we are to be reconciled to one another before offering our gifts and receiving Communion. So we ‘pass the peace’ as a gesture of reconciliation and goodwill. Please do this with a wave, peace sign or another physically distant greeting.

The Peace of the Lord be with you always, And also with you.

Offering

The offering is an act of worship. We offer a portion of what God has blessed us with for the purpose of doing God’s work in the world through the church.

Offering Prayer

God of goodness and growth, all creation is yours, and your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. Give us the courage to proclaim your steadfast love in our communities and in the world, through Jesus Christ, our strength and our song. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy Name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

Prayer Concerns and Celebrations from the week of August 2

Dear Lord, We bring to you the burdens we carry, and our prayers for healing and comfort. We remember people suf-

fering around the world, amid the turmoil of political strife, and those often wounded or killed for the sake of

their Christian belief. We pray for the leaders around the world that, regardless of their religious belief, the

Holy Spirit works in their hearts and minds to instill a sense of freedom and justice for all, especially those

who are unable to advocate for themselves. Keep those who are suffering in mind and body close to

you. Heal the sick, injured and those suffering with other medical conditions. Wrap them, their caregivers

and their families in your tender embrace, so that they feel the grace, love, and comfort which only you can

provide. For all, we pray that your will be done.

We especially pray for:

Jim Haug - motorcycle accident - Todd Grainger

Jackson (8 yrs. Old) – diagnosed and hospitalized with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, had first chemo

treatment – Christine Franz

Ron Wells (son) - heart attack / stent placement - Richard Wells

Sophia Knudsen - We are heading to South Carolina on August 8 to take Sophia to the University of

South Carolina. She starts marching band camp on August 12 and school August 20. She is in the Hon-

ors College and will be studying Pharmacy. Please pray for safe travels and a great Freshman year for

Sophia! Thank you, Kimberly

Continued prayers for: Chuck, Randy, Jacob, Elaina, Jan, Mike, Gus, Ben, Mary Kleiman, Karen Par-

men, Ann Marie, Eileen, Mark, Be, Bethanne, Rachel, Gertrude, George, P.J., and Keith

All battling COVID-19 and health care workers, and any others we hold in our hearts

Lord, we thank you for all the wonderful gifts which you bestow on us. Let us be a blessing to others, using

what you have so freely given us… our time, our talents, our empathy… Thank you for today, and I pray

your Holy Spirit continue to guide me on my journey, and that your light continues to shine through us.

Today, we especially remember and thank you for:

Birthday celebrations: Dick, Valerie, Joe, Barb, Peggy, Al, James, Paul, Kathy, and Noah

Anniversaries: Bob & Kathie Eastman/45; George & Amanda Hoelzl/2; Al & Kathy Theis/48

All of this we bring to you in prayer, confident that you will hear us. This we ask, in Jesus’ name. Amen
