Motorways Police was established with prime mandate to ensure the

safety and protection of the road users. This new police organization was added as

a specialized police service. I firmly believe that the members of NH&MP shall at

least have excellent driving skills knowledge of traffic rules. No doubt this creation

shall be more than an ordinary traffic police.

Throughout the world in civilized societies all police officers are expected

to be well versed with the driving skills. Driving is not merely playing with the

steering wheel or just pushing the foot pedals. If I express it not the job of an illiterate

persons.

An exercise was planned to check the driving skills of the officers of M-2

(North) Sector.

TESTING TEAM: A team of ----------- officers was constructed headed by the undersigned

who tested the driving skills.

VENUE: Test was conducted at the premises of Line (HQ) M-2 and road test was

carried out on Motorways.

CONTENT TESTS: DRIVING COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT: The objective of the Driving competency assessment is to evaluate the

driving ability and skills of the officers. The candidate was expected to produce

his/her valid driving license.

COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT INTAKE: According to the results the directly

DRIVING LICENSE: Total 168 officers were tested prior to the test their Driving Licenses were

checked. 66 officers produced valid. 17 officers produced expired licenses while 85

officers failed to produce Driving License (almost 50 %).

It’s worth mentioning that following a schedule these officers were daily

called for the test, but these 85 officers expressed casual attitude. These officers

are daily issuing tickets for different violations. In case of non-production of Driving

License, they proceed under B-50 and impose a fine of Rs.750. But question arises

that who will check these officers who consider themselves above of law.

ASSESMENT: The candidates were tested into two phases. They were given a series of

two driving exercises.

PHASE-I – HANDLING EXERCISE: The exercise was carried out over a short period of time. Within 03

minutes, the officers should drive the vehicle forward avoiding an obstacle. Finally,

the officers must bring the vehicle into the parking place.

PHASE-II – ROAD EXERCISE: This exercise was carried out to test the driving maneuvers of the officers. SUGGESTIONS: 1) A Board at Central level be constituted to test those who apply for jobs in

NH&MP.

2) A testing procedure be notified. 3) For those who wants to join as deputationists teams shall be constituted at Zonal

level.

4) After 3 years annual refresher comes be arranged at Training Centre.
