PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & INFORMATION :
Professional Experience:
Research: As a biostatistician, I have been trained in Epidemiology and Clinical Epidemiology.
This helped me to design Public Health studies such as Prevalence of HIV AIDS in Tamil Nadu
India in 1998 and in 2003. The 1998 study made the Indian Council Medical Research to establish
Sentinel Surveillance Centres in the country. Prevalence and Risk factors for spousal violence in
India 1999-2000. This study publications were used in the Parliament to make law., Antibiotics
Prescription Pattern in India 2002 -2004. Further in the field of HIV AIDS, got involved in the
design, analyses and paper writing of High Risk Behaviours of migrants in Maharastra, India,
Behaviour Sentinel Surveillance (BSS) of Truckers and Helpers, Female Sex Workers over 11
year in Tamil Nadu state, India. Worked for WHO sponsored Measles Aerosol Project with the
aim to show that aerosolised measles vaccine which was delivered through nasal route is as good
as the vaccine delivered through subcutaneous route. Helped Ph.D work to a Adopt Markov Chain
principles in the analyses of Longitudinal Data and compared its flexibility, reduced SE with GEE
and MLM. Currently working on another Ph.D work in the Hidden Markov Models and the use of
Transition Probabilities in Time Series Data analyses, Mixture Distributions and Mixture
Regressions as compared to MLM. Developed nMaster sample size software which is as good as
nQuery or PASS softwares. This is widely being used in medical colleges in India. Gained
expertise in Bayesian methods and Bootstrap techniques and providing the expertise to the Ph.D
students to use these methods in their Dissertations.
Training: First time in India since 2002, I established Short Courses in Biostatistics and
Epidemiological Methods, Conducting other short courses such as Clinical trials and Meta
Analyses, Sample Size Calculation, Fundamentals of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. These
courses are conducted in May/June, August and November/December. Doing a project (USAID,
India funded) to train African Countries HIV AIDS Researchers in Research Methods,
Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Computers (short courses and a month long Fellowship program).
Advanced Level Biostatistical Methods such as MLM and GEE, Bayesian Methods and Bootstrap
methods. Clinical Trials and Advanced Level Clinical Trial course in collaboration with
University of North Carolina faculty.
Teaching categorical data analyses and Epidemiological Methods for Masters in Biostatistics
Program at the department. Refer appendix for the topics that I teach for Masters course and Short

Contribution to High Quality Data Management for Clinical Trials in India.
In today’s scientific and medical world, various issues in clinical trials, especially the Ethics, quality
of research and quality data management are three aspects, which have been the focus of attention in
the recent years. However, the clinical trials which are conducted at the academic institutions or
trails done in the developing countries have always had lack of infrastructure for quality data
management following GCP principles and therefore outsource this activity to CROs for higher
price. In order to facilitate, academic research related quality data management and also conduct
training, I have founded a project named “CMC CREDAT” to foster Credible Data and Training at
the Department of Biostatistics, CMC, Vellore in September 2007. This center is established under
the GCP Guidelines for Data Management, first time within the academic institution in India and has
been audited by WHO. The objectives are:
1. To provide quality service in the conduct of clinical trials data management in compliance
with GCP ICH and FDA regulatory requirements and guidelines.
2. To conduct training courses in Electronic Data capture, Audit Trial Software, Adverse Event
and Drug Coding in clinical data management.
3. To provide Biostatistical services in the analyses and report writing.
