Building Drought Resilience

STAFFING, RESPONSE PLANS AND FUNDING

• Create a drought response team and plan for utility staffing

• Develop or update your utility’s drought plan

• Conduct training and exercises on key parts of a drought response

• Identify options for funding and financing drought-related projects and initiatives

WATER SUPPLY AND DEMAND MANAGEMENT

• Determine water supply availability

• Improve system efficiency (water loss management, audits and leak detection)

• Reduce customer water demand

• Explore options for additional water supplies

COMMUNICATION AND PARTNERSHIPS

• Share clear and consistent messages

• Coordinate with others when conducting outreach

• Coordinate and work with local groups, other water utilities, local and state agencies, key water stakeholders and the private sector
