Organized by geographic zones and distribution channels, the L'Oral group has four commercial divisions, as well as a Research & Innovation division and an Operations division.     Challenge From Social Network to Knowledge Enabler To optimize the effectiveness of its teams worldwide, lOreal Operations division wishes to improve knowledge transmission in all levels of the group. L'Oreal thus deploys "Yammer," a social web platform developed by Microsoft, for its employees in 2012. Three years later, 23,000 lOreal employees use the internal social network on voluntary basis. To intensify the qualitative aspect of conversations within Yammer, lOreal Operations wishes to: identify conversation leaders incite actions for business knowledge transmission

    Solution Sort, analyze, & automatically view Yammer generated data LOreal uses DSS to create an application that automatically retrieves all Yammer data and generates: Graphical representations of conversational flows and activity within individual

    discussion groups over time; Customizable graphs of dynamic interactions to identify opinion leaders. LOreal Operations HR team has direct access to these results and uses them for their operational purposes. Results HR Teams Empowered to Intensify Knowledge Transmission With the application, LOreal successfully identifies three types of leaders: The platform brokers who are "global" Yammer brokers The group brokers who are the "local" Yammer brokers The "Dealers" are those who "move" conversations from one focus group to

    another, ensuring the proper transmission of information within the platform. Today, the DSS powered application is fully governed by lOreal Operations HR team. Thanks to the data analysis done in DSS, Yammer is increasingly used as a real knowledge transfer tool that allows teams worldwide to freely share their business know-how for better productivity.


    We adopted Data Science Studio for its capacity to analyze pre-selected varieties of data and to visually and dynamically represent the results.
