Traditional Supplication for the Host

In the name of Allah, the Universally Merciful, the Singularly Compassionate

All praise belongs to Allah, who gave us food and drink, satisfied our needs and quenched

our thirst, protected us and made us of those who have submitted [muslimin]. O Allah, bless

the sustenance You provide and save us from the tribulations of the fire. O Allah, feed those

who have fed us and satiate them who have satiated us.

O Allah, we beseech you to grant us forgiveness, have mercy, and bestow protection

against illnesses and calamities and upon our generous host, his family and helpers; grant

them all that is permissible and guard them from all that is prohibited; fulfil their intentions,

accept their hospitality, heal their loved ones who are ill, have mercy upon their dearly

departed ones, together with those amongst us who ate and who are uttering Âmîn.

O Allah, increase us and do not exhaust us. O Allah bless us in our food, drinks, buying and

selling, financial transactions, occupation, and business dealings. “If you were to try to count

Allah’s favors upon you, you will not be able to enumerate them.” O Allah, help us towards

obedience to You and keep us away from disobedience to You. By Your Universal Mercy, O

Most Merciful of the merciful!
