rules and regulations

PREAMBLEParticipation, following the rules of the competitions and sportsmanship are more important than winning. Institutional interest should be above personal interest. Grace in loss and humility in victory should be the attitude.

GENERAL RULESIf participants do not follow the rules, especially regarding the punctuality and vulgarity, and/or misbehavior, they will be disqualified.

The participant should avoid exceeding the time limit as it would lead to a reduction in points.

Only bonafide students will be allowed to participate and attend the event. All participants must possess their Institute ID cards along with them at all times.

The participants must register by 19th March 2018 for all events, they can do so by registering themselves at mudcarnival.ml or filling out the form provided by the campus

Audio files for singing, dancing, drama or any other event must be emailed in MP3 format ONLY, by 21st March 2018 (Before 6PM) to [email protected], the students must also carry their audio files in a usb as a backup.

An event will be cancelled if there are less than 3 entries.

The Institute which scores the highest points will receive a Trophy. The decision of the judges will be final and binding. However, in the case of any genuine dispute or objection, only sta� coordinator of the Institute may submit a memorandum to the Student Services O�cer within half an hour of announcing the results. The matter shall be reviewed by the judges of the particular event, and if found genuine the position may be reviewed and changed.

There is NO spot registration for any event other than parallel events.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai Campus will not compete for the Overall Trophy.

DEBATE

Rules

1 team per Institute. Each team will consist of maximum 2 members (1 FOR the motion, 1 AGAINST the motion).

Maximum of 3 minutes will be given to speak for and against the motion. A warning bell will be sounded after two and a half minutes. The final bell will be rung after 3 minutes.

Exceeding the time limit may entail negative marking. Each speaker may entertain a maximum of two questions during the rebuttal session. All questions need to be addressed via the moderator at any given time during the debate.

Only one contestant can speak at a time. Each contestant can be stopped from speaking by other contestants if they commit the following standard mistakes: pause, employ time wasting tactics or make logical errors.

TOPIC: A person’s dying wish should be granted.

TURNCOAT

Rules

The speaker will get 5 minutes to speak on the given topic.

Participants will be given the topic 10 minutes before they go on stage.

In the duration of the 5 minutes, whenever the judge comments ‘switch’, the participant will have to switch between ‘for’ and ‘against’ multiple times, thus contradicting their own previous statement.

The participant must adhere to the DIAC Code of Conduct.

QUIZ

Rules

1 TEAM PER Institute and teams of maximum 3 members.

Only FOUR teams will go to the finals.

The finals may include audio visual rounds.

Specific rules regarding the evaluation procedure, time to answer a particular question and the type of rounds will be given at the venue during the competition.

PHOTOGRAPHYTheme: Faces of Life

3 submissions per person.

Registration for the completion must be through the o�cial website: www.mudcarnival.ml on or before Monday, March 26.

Files required for the competition, as mention in the rules below, must be submitted via email to the student council ID: [email protected]

No registrations or submissions after the deadline will be permitted.

RULES:Photos submitted should represent any one of the given themes and it shouldnt be a collage.

Photos should be clicked only on the manual mode of the camera. Settings such as Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO, should not be controlled by automatic systems.

Photographic manipulation is permitted only for the theme: Double Exposure. Software used for manipulation should be any of the versions of Adobe Photoshop.

No other softwares are permitted.

Use of photographic manipulation for other themes are limited to adjustments for brightness, contrast, saturation, and color correction. No other edits are permitted.

Software on which the adjustments are made should be any of the versions of Adobe Photoshop. No other softwares are permitted.

In case no editing is done, only the original file (JPEG FINE) directly from the camera should be submitted. It shouldn’t be converted or run through any softwares at all. RAW files won’t be accepted.

In case any of the permitted adjustments are made, or the photograph confers to the theme of double exposure, a Photoshop file (.PSD) should be submitted along with the (.JPG) export of the final photograph, and also the original (.JPG) photograph from the camera. The edits must be distinguishable via ‘layers’ on the Photoshop file.

Photos submitted to the competition must not be shared to the public in any way, including publishing or sharing on social media platforms. Participants may share it only after the event is (not after the registration/submission deadline).In case the entry doesn’t comply with any one, more, or all of these rules, it will be disqualified from the competition.

ONE ACT PLAY

Rules

Judging Criteria: Story script, use of props + costumes coordination, overall performance & creativity.

Open Theme.

A maximum time limit of 10 minutes is allotted to every team which includes stage set-up.

The language of the skit will be in ENGLISH or HINDI only.

They can also opt to use voice recordings, which need to be submitted in a MP3 format.

The judging would be done on the basis of the adaptation of the theme, the story, scene, and the main criteria of judgment would be acting.

Props should be brought by the respective teams. (Tables and Chairs will be provided on prior notice)

No vulgarity, weapons, blood or violence will be permitted.

There should be no political, religious or racial comments or actions that could hurt any sentiments.

Reporting time is 1 hour before the act.

Vocal Solo: 2 ENTRIES PER INSTITUTE each in Eastern and Western category.

Vocal Group: 1 ENTRY PER INSTITUTE each in Eastern and Western category. A total of Max. 8 members in each group.

Maximum of 4 minutes, including set up, wind up and sound check time.

Classical, gazals, geeths, film songs, non-film songs are allowed.

Participants may sing with or without karaoke. Any 1 instrument may be used by the singer.

For western solo, English or any other foreign language is allowed.

For eastern solo Hindi orany other Indian language is permitted.

DANCE – SOLO AND GROUP

Each INSTITUTE is allowed to send a maximum of 2 groups for Dance Group.

Any kind of RISKY props strictly not allowed. Risky gimmicks are not allowed and teams may be disqualified in case of objection from the judges.

All music tracks to be given in advance (see General Rules).

SPILLAGE OF ANY KIND: sand, flowers, petals, water, paper, etc. is strictly not allowed.

Participant must adhere to the DIAC code of conduct regarding attire andbehavior on stage.

Rules

Judging Criteria: Clothing, Walking Style, Originality

Theme: Celebrating Life

1 TEAM PER INSTITUTE. Teams shall consist of maximum 12 members.

Maximum 10 minutes, including set up, wind up, sound check and narration time.

Narrations are allowed by only 1 narrator per team.

Vulgarity in dresses would result in immediate disqualification and the team may not be allowed to continue. Faculty coordinators please keep a check. The entire team will be disqualified if one member wears a dress that is found objectionable by the judges. The team will not be allowed to continue.

Participants are expected to follow the DIAC code of conduct regarding rules for behavior and attire on stage.

GROUP PAINTING

Rules

Theme: Vision of Tomorrow

This will be an open event.

The objective is to create a painting based on given theme.

A maximum time of 1 hour and 10 additional minutes for set up will be given to all participants.

Expression can be free hand pictorial. Only Canvas will be provided to all participants.

Participants will have to get their own paints, brushes, water containers and other required materials.

NO OIL PAINTING IS ALLOWED. Any other medium can be used.

Participants are NOT allowed to explain their theme to the judges.

TOPIC: A person’s dying wish should be granted.

SLAM POETRY

Theme Peace, Youth Empowerment,Tolerance Max. Time Alloted 3 mins

Rules

Each poem must be of the poet's own construction.

Each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem.

If the poet goes over time, points will be deducted from the total score.

Students should submit their poetry by 18th of March to [email protected] with the subject –slam poetry.

Necessary details like name, contact and institution must be mentioned in the email.

The shortlisted poems from di�erent institutes will have to recite the poems on stage for the final judgement.

Students can choose from either of the above given themes.

SHORT FILM MAKINGTheme: Cyber Bullying

Submission:Registration for the competition must be made through the o�cial website: www.mudcarnival.ml on or before Sunday, March 25.

Final copy of the film must be uploaded to YouTube, with the privacy setting as ‘unlisted’, and the link must be emailed to [email protected] with the Title of the movie as subject.

No registrations or submissions after the deadline will be permitted.

Selection process:Films will go for a judging process wherein, the entries will be judged in terms of presentation of the theme, creative expression, uniqueness, story, acting, direction, and cinematography.

The prizes given will be for the Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Film.

There won’t be second or third positions for any of the above mentioned prizes.

RULES:Films submitted should represent any one of the given themes.

Contents of the film must be in terms with the legal, cultural, ethical, religious, and moral values of the United Arab Emirates. Any entries with conflicting values will be disqualified.

Themes can be presented in any genre, including but not limited to – drama, comedy, action, thriller, mystery, Sci-Fi, romance, etc.

Runtime (duration) of the film must not be longer than 5 minutes (including credits).

Entries can be shot on any camera as long as it fulfills the resolution requirement.

Entries can be edited on any software as long as it fulfills the resolution requirement.

The video file must have a minimum resolution of 720p HD (1280x720 pixels).

Films submitted to this competition must not be shared to the public in any way, including sharing it on social media platforms. The submitted YouTube link must have its privacy setting as ‘Unlisted’. Participants may choose to release the film publicly only after the event is over.

INSTRUMENTAL

Rules

Each INSTITUTE is allowed to send a maximum of 2 pariticipants for Instrumental.

Judging Criteria: Di�culty Level, Melody, Tightness and Overall Performance.

Maximum of 6 minutes, including set up, wind up and sound check time.

Every participant must use one instrument ONLY.

Participants must bring their own instruments. Basic setup will be provided.

No digital track must be played as support music.

No accompanists allowed.

Participants must adhere to the DIAC code of conduct regarding attire and behavior on stage.

BEST OUT OF WASTE

Team shall consist of upto four members only.

The Registrations are to be done by Monday March 19th, 2018.

The final submission of the project or craft will be on Tuesday 27th March, 2018.

Waste material could be anything like tetra packs, bottles, newspapers, old utensils, jute material or any second hand items that otherwise would be thrown away.

Participants will be judged on Creativity, Utilization of Resources, Artistic composition & design, Eco-friendly rating, Utility of the Product and Overall Presentation.

The decision of the judges will be considered final and abiding.

POSTER MAKINGTheme: Drug Abuse

All presentation information should be within your poster.

Your title should be appropriate for the theme; make it interesting and informative.

The poster presentation should be self-contained and complete without additional oral explanation since it is an online competition.

Participants can use any ADOBE design tool for making the poster.

Submission has to be made in JPEG format.

Posters has to be submitted on email as an attachment [email protected] on or before Monday, March 19.

Your presentation will be judged based on the visual appeal, clarity of your introduction, organizational flow, conclusion statements and convincing proof of research potential andtheme relevance.

MOVIE SNIPPET

Rules

The competition is to enact out an entire movie in a few scenes in 4 minutes.

Props are allowed. Spillage of any kind is not permitted.

Participants can use voice over files and music, which need to be submitted in a MP3 format.

The event poster and other audio files have to be sent to [email protected] two days prior to the competition.

Participants can print one copy of Movie Poster.
