About Dulcolax tablets and how it works This medicine is used for the short term relief of constipation. It may also be used to empty the bowel before your doctor carries out certain medical procedures such as surgery or radiological investigations. This medicine belongs to a group of medicines called laxatives. The active ingredient, bisacodyl works by making bowel muscles contract more often and with more force. This increased muscle action moves bowel contents to the rectum to be emptied and relieves constipation. This medicine is available in the form of tablets that are taken by mouth. This medicine should not be taken for long periods of time or used excessively as it may cause an imbalance of fluids and salts and may also lower potassium levels in your blood. Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after taking this medicine for five days, or if they get worse during treatment with this medicine. Before using Dulcolax tablets This medicine may not be suitable for everyone and some people must never have it. Before taking this medicine consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines including vitamins, supplements and herbal or complementary preparations. The following medicines may interact with this medicine: prepa ratio ns that reduc e stoma ch acidi ty such as antacids or proton pump inhibitors diuret ics (wa ter tablet s) cort icosteroids Possible side effects of Dulcolax tablets Most medicines can cause some side-effects but not everyone having the same medicine will get the same side-effects. Possible side effects of Dulcolax tablets

• hypersensitivity reactions• angioedema• anaphylactic reactions• dehydration - stop taking this medicine and seek
