Principal. Presidents and Student Leadership Team elections

I have interviewed all applicants for the 2014/15 Student Leadership Team and see that a decision on the new team will be a

difficult one. There are twelve applicants for six positions: Presidents, Vice Presidents and Student Representative Council (SRC)

representatives.

All the applicants have satisfied the criteria for selection and have spoken to me about their understanding of the roles and their readiness to

take on a leadership position in the school. They are an excellent group of young people and all show promise of doing well if they succeed.

The next step is for them to make a speech to the whole school, putting their case for selection. This can be a daunting task and I wish them all

well. The speeches will occur during the assembly on Wednesday this week. Students and staff will vote later in the week and the successful

students will be announced early next week.

HSC Trials

The trials are over and all year 12 students are back in classes, at the final stages of their preparation for the actual HSC in October. The next

few weeks will rush by very quickly and it is absolutely important for them to be in contact with their teachers and in class regularly at this last

step in their school year.

2. Jean Latham Educational Grant. To the value of $300.00 tenable by a Year 11 student entering Year 12 and residing within the bounds

of the Hunter River Group. This Grant is also awarded on a “needs” basis.

Application forms are available from your local Dungog-Clarence Town CWA Branch Secretary, Kris Burnet, Phone No. 49964594.

STUDENT ACHIEVER OF THE WEEK AWARD This week’s recipient is: Monique Kerr Year 8

CAREERS NEWS RSA COURSE Northnet will be providing a Responsible Service of Alcohol Course at Dungog Bowling Club on Saturday September 13 between 9am and 4pm. Students over the age of 17 years and 6 months can undertake the course for $130. (The qualification cannot be used unti l the student is 18.) Members of the public are welcome to attend for a cost of $140. The maximum group size is 30.

If you are interested in gaining this qualification please pay at the School Office before September 6. A permission note is not required as the School is only facilitating this course. WORK EXPERIENCE AT THE ZOO Students in Year 10 next year have the opportunity to undertake Work Experience at either Taronga or Western Plains Zoo. As these positions are highly prized by students throughout NSW, the Zoos require applications by December this year so that they can plan their year. Each school can only send one student to each Zoo. If your daughter or son is interested in working with animals and you can arrange accommodation in Sydney or Dubbo, this would be an excellent Work Experience opportunity. You must also be prepared to attend on whatever date is offered. Interested students need to see or email me before the end of this week (September 5) to go on a list of students to be inter viewed in the following weeks. They will need to have a resume and be prepared to convince the interviewers as to why they should be chosen based on their knowledge of the job, interest in animals etc. DISCOVER THE WORLD ON A WEP STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM!

BUSY TIME FOR MUSICIANS Term 3 has been a busy and sometimes hectic time for Dungog High Musos with many events and extra happenings around both school and

the local area.

In July the Vocal Ensemble performed at the Education Week Ceremonies which were held in the Dungog High School Multi Purpose Centre.

The group lead the National Anthem with soloist Jade Eyb and then performed the song „Happy Together‟. Special thanks should go to not

only these students but also to the Sound/ Technical crew Ian Parsons and Ronnie Piper who set up and managed all the equipment for feeder

schools for their many and varied performances Thanks boys!

In week 7 a PBL Assembly was held and once again the boys with help from Zac

Van Dam and Levi Neave spent time organising for this assembly and providing

equipment for performances. It was great to see the five boys leading the National

Anthem, and such good voices....well done boys!!

It is the time of Year when many Practical Examinations are taking place for Year 12

students. In week 9 the Music Class will sit for their Practical which includes

performances and Viva Voces (discussions on a Music topic of their choice).

Two (or even three) Examiners will travel to school and each student will be

examined individually. It

is an exciting but often

stressful time for these students and we wish them well in these Examinations.

We would also like to thank very sincerely the other students who perform as

Backing Vocalists and Instrumentalists in these Exams. They give up plenty of

their free time and it is great to see them working to help others.......You are all

WONDERFUL!!

Respect – Responsibility – Personal Best

Dungog High School PBL 2015

The Positive Behaviour for Learning Committee would like your input into areas, in which we as a school could focus our PBL Program for 2015. So far we have covered issues in the areas of walkways, inappropriate language, canteen, litter, the bus bays and classroom routines – these are all ongoing. We are gathering input from students in DEAR groups, staff and the wider school community. This input will be collated and discussed by a student PBL focus group and the PBL Committee, and the main issues placed on a timeline, with strategies being implemented in 2015. Please identify areas which you think could be improved, outline some reasons for your choices and provide any suggestions (strategies) of how we could make improvements. Please return all forms to the office, or email: [email protected] by Friday 13

th September, 2014. Thank you for your input!
