What a busy start to the term we have had… Please keep an eye on the calendar as we have a variety of extra curricula events occurring this term. NAPLAN Online (National Assessment Program – Literacy & Numeracy) will be held over two weeks starting this Tuesday (Tuesday 14th May to Friday 24th May) for all students in year 3 and year 5. As parents/carers are aware the Dungog Shire Council is replacing the watermain along Dowling street. This work started some time ago and the work has now progressed past the front of the school (Dowling street entry). As the work is still continuing we encourage everyone to be safe when approaching the area. Congratulations to our Netball team who played at the Gala day in Maitland last Friday. They had a great day developing their skills as a team. Woolworths has just launched Earn & Learn, and we're once again joining it. For those parents who aren't aware of the program, if you shop at Woolworths between 1st of May and the 25th of June you can earn stickers. Our school will be collecting these stickers which we'll be able to swap for new school equipment; things like art and craft supplies, sports gear, teaching aids, and more. So for any parents, friends or family members who shop at Woolworths, please collect those stickers and drop them in to our collection box, which is located in our foyer and also at Greenhills Woolworths, Rutherford Woolworths and Raymond Terrace Woolworths. Congratulations to our PSSA Rugby League team who played 2 games in Singleton last week. They went down in both games by 2 points but were very competitive and showed some great sportsmanship. Congratulations to Montana McDougall who played Touch Football at the Hunter Regional Touch Trials last week. Don’t forget the Stage 3 Cake Stall is now on this Friday! Kylie Pennell

Stage One- 1V 1V have been looking at Growth Mindset and how we need to have a positive attitude towards everything we do. 1V English have been producing some great work in L3 Rotations. 1V Maths have been doing some investigations amongst their peers in order to create Data graphs. It has been lots of fun watching 1V get right into Drama this term and there has certainly been lots of giggles. I hope you have an amazing week!
Messages DPS Sandpit - DPS is currently
fixing up our sandpit and are looking for any donations of Toys for the sandpit (Tonka trucks, buckets, etc).
The P&C Uniform Shop will be open every 2nd Friday morning from 8.40am to 9.15am odd weeks. Orders can be left at the office.
Jumpers – As the weather is getting cooler and more jumpers are making their way to school, can we please ensure your child’s name is on their jumper.
Facebook - Dungog Public School has a very active facebook page. Like our page so you can follow all the exciting things that are happening at our school.
Attendance Text Messaging system – we are continuing to implement our new text messaging system. Text Messages will be sent out daily from approximately 10am. It is a simple procedure to allow parents/carers to simply text back a reason why their child is away from school. The return text message only needs to provide a brief reason as to why the child was away on that day. E.g – Doctor’s appointment, sick, holiday, funeral, etc
Kindergarten- KO Today we had 4 sausage dog puppies visiting our classroom and we will be writing about them this week. We are reading, reading, reading and trying to use expression. In maths we have been learning about making and reading simple graphs. Remember to make sure all jumpers have names in them so they can find their way back home.
Stage One- 1M 1M English class have been working hard on our Sizzling Starts in writing and have created some wonderful pieces of writing based on the text “Flood” by Jackie French. This week 1M Maths class are focusing on Addition and Subtraction. Science has definitely been fun so far this term! Last week we completed an experiment testing the flexibility of different materials! Have a super week!
Kindergarten- KM It's wonderful to be back and see all my favourite faces! Looking forward to a great Term 2 with KM. We are looking at reading lots of different Dreamtime stories in Literacy this term and practicing putting all our sounds together to begin writing sentences. In Maths this week, we are going to be using addition to add small groups of numbers together and have had fun starting our new Science unit investigating the Material World!
Stage One- 1G What a busy week it’s been in 1G! 1G have
been looking at Floods and learning about
what causes them in different parts of
Australia. In Maths we’ve been looking at
Chance and Data and why we use them. Of
an afternoon we’ve been looking at the
history of Dungog and the properties of
different materials in Science. We’ve also
found some time for a bit of Music with
some singing as well! Have a fantastic
week!

Library with Mrs Norris Welcome back to Term 2. Library learning will be diverse this term. ES1 are looking at the Material World and will be using computers to design a building. S1 are studying the Physical World and will be discovering all sorts of energy sources. S2 and S3 are going to be learning the language of coding. Reading is still the most important learning for our students. May is the month for family reading - 10 minutes a day of shared reading is the challenge for all our families.
Stage Two- 2G 2G has been working hard last week to build a growth mindset and spread positivity around the classroom. We are looking to set goals for ourselves this week and also help others to set a goal for themselves as well. The next two weeks will see NAPLAN happening and may be a little mucked up for Stage 2 students as we try to ensure each student is given the opportunity to do their personal best during this time. Have a fantastic week 3 and don’t forget to find the positives in each day!

Stage Two- 2J Everyone has settled back into routine nicely! We have been doing lots of creative writing in English, I can’t wait to see the finished products. 2J have also been focusing on adding in adjectives to their work and in Maths we have dived into the wonderful world of fractions and word problems :) :)
Stage Two- 2M We have been learning about fractions in Maths & modelling parts of an object or group, learning about numerators (the number up the top of a fraction) & the denominator (the number down the bottom) and looking at equivalent fractions. Have a great week!
Stage Three- 3G We would like to extend a huge “THANK YOU” to the Australian Airforce for their amazing leadership discussion they had with Stage 3. So many students were inspired by the discussions around strategic thinking, personal drive, integrity and communication. Our Growth Mindset continues to grow in 3G, we spent some time reflecting on “US” to complete our own ‘circle of control’ points. We continued to work on how we can ‘change our words’. This was a fun drama activity, chnaging each others minsdset. NAPLAN is on in week 3-4 for year 3 and 5 students. Goodluck to all the students!
Stage Three- 3L Welcome to week 3. 3L hope all mums had a lovely Mother's Day and liked the present we made them. 3L English have been working hard focusing on using consistent tense in narrative writing and using figurative language to engage the reader. 3L Maths have been using lesson warm-ups to improve the speed of their mental calculations. We've also been completing worded maths problems. Have a lovely week!
Stage Three- 3S 3S hope every Mother and special lady
had a lovely day on Sunday and

This week, year 5 will be participating
in NAPLAN. Miss Snowdon wishes every
student good luck and remember not to
stress over it.
Stage 3 were so inspired last week with
the Air force coming in to speak to us
about leadership. Students asked some
great questions and I think there was a
few career changes after the visit :)
