Dusit International held a press conference at Maharaj Nakhorn Chiang Mai Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand to announce its sponsorship of cleft lip or cleft palate surgeries for 100 children with these facial deformities. The sponsorship comes by way of Dusit Smiles, a program created in partnership with Operation Smile Thailand.
The surgeries are possible due to donations collected from guests and staff of Dusit International’s hotels and resorts. Donations are collected throughout the year via voluntary staff salary deductions, donation boxes in the hotels, and various fundraisers organized by the Group.
Founded in 2010, by 2011 Dusit Smiles raised enough funds to sponsor surgeries for nearly 80 children. In 2012, to commemorate the auspicious occasion of the 85th birthday of HM the King of Thailand, the company sponsored 85 surgeries.
To date, Dusit Smiles’ efforts have raised over 3 million THB, used to cover the cost of medical equipment as well as transportation for the children and their families. The surgeons, nurses and hospital staff are all volunteers.
“Because we are a Thai company, we feel it is both our duty and responsibility to give back to the community,” said David Shackleton, COO of Dusit International. “The objectives and results achieved by Operation Smile Thailand make this an exceptional organisation to support, and we are pleased to partner with them in bringing a brighter future to these deserving children.”
Since 1997, Operation Smile Thailand has treated over 7,000 children with facial deformities. Children who do not receive reconstructive surgery often have difficulty breathing, drinking, eating and speaking. As a result, many suffer from malnutrition, medical and psychological problems. Approximately one in every 500 babies in Thailand is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate, but in as little as 60 minutes, one surgery can change a child's life.

Regional Vice President for Middle East and Africa
Thierry Douin has been named Regional Vice President for the Middle East and Africa where he will oversee the company’s expansion efforts, drive operational performance and supervise the opening of new hotels from the Dubai Regional Office. He has been in the industry for more than 35 years and has managed luxury hotels for various groups including InterContinental Hotels and Resorts and most recently, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. Douin, a French national, is a graduate of the Hotel and Catering School in Granville, France. He has attended various executive programs such as the Luxury Brand Management Program at ESSEC Business School, the Asian International Executive Program at INSEAD Business School and the General Manager’s Program at the School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University.
Regional Director of Sales and Marketing UK and Europe
Anita Skibiel has been appointed Regional Director of Sales and Marketing UK and Europe. With over a decade’s experience as Director of Global Sales with Starwood Hotels and Resorts UK, Skibiel and her team of three will oversee and develop the company’s UK, European and Scandinavian accounts across the MICE, corporate and leisure market segments. Skibiel holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pacific Lutheran University (USA) and has completed three executive courses with INSEAD.

In line with the company’s growth strategy during their “Year of Expansion,” Asian hospitality group Dusit International announces the opening of a new Regional Sales Office in Tokyo, Japan to further develop long-standing relationships within one of the group’s most important source markets.
Historically, Japan has been one of Dusit International’s largest source markets and this is expected to continue ahead of the opening of the Dusit Thani Guam resort.
Operations will be led by Keita Sekine, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing - Japan, Dusit International. With over fifteen years of operational and sales experience, most recently Sekine was Director of Sales with Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo K. K. and with Marriott International at the Guam Marriott Resort and Spa in Tumon, Guam. He holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, USA.
Completing the Sales Team is Shuichi Ueda, Director of Sales – Japan, Dusit International. Ueda joins the Tokyo office as a transfer from his previous post at Dusit Thani Manila, Philippines where he was most recently Assistant Director of Sales, overseeing Japanese corporate and leisure accounts.

Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket was honoured to host the 2013 Chapitre and Dinner of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs on 19 April 2013 at the award winning Italian restaurant, La Trattoria. La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is the oldest and most prestigious international gastronomic society, devoted to the promotion of fine dining and the pleasures of the table. There are members in more than one hundred countries in all parts of the world. In Thailand there are nearly two hundred members in three Bailliages in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket.
The dinner started with an alfresco champagne reception followed by the Intronisation ceremony, where members renew their commitment as well as introduce new members, and finally moved to dinner. Executive Chef Silvano Almolini together with F&B Director Alfred Spieler created a lavish seven course menu inspired by the best ingredients from each continent. Highlights included Hokkaido scallops, Boston lobster, Parisi egg and suckling pig, expertly paired with wines from around the world.
Tradition and state-of-the-art facilities converge at the new Dusit Club Lounge, Dusit Thani Manila’s latest addition to its ever-growing list of innovations catering to the discerning traveler.
The 900-square meter facility sits atop the hotel and offers a holistic approach to luxury for Club Lounge residents with three unique areas: a Silence Room, a Private Dining Room and a Pavilion. Dusit Thani Dubai has achieved the Investors in People Silver accreditation, the only organization in the Middle East currently holding this accolade. Dusit Thani College, in co-operation with Italy’s most prestigious culinary institute, the Gambero Rosso, is pleased to present the “Best of Italian” culinary courses to the general public and its students. These courses will be offered from July – August 2013.
The “Best of Italian” culinary courses have been designed by a highly skilled Italian chef from Gambero Rosso, Chef Adelaide Michelini. Chef Adelaide brings with her a great wealth of experience, having worked with Michelin-starred chefs in top ranked restaurants and also having been an honorary chef for numerous embassies in Italy.
Take a journey through seven different two-day courses, including Very Italian Pizzas & Special Breads, The Best Italian Fresh Pasta, The Real Cuisine from the North of Italy, The Real Cuisine from the South of Italy, Most Popular Italian Desserts, Roman Cuisine: The True Roman Tradition and Best Recipes for Dried Italian Pasta. Prices run from THB 18,000 to THB 22,000 per course.

We are pleased to announce another exciting, new course has just opened: Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Wines Studies Course.
This course will help you appreciate the beauty and importance of wine. You will also learn how best to pair wine with food and explore wines from around the world, including the best Thai wines. The course combines academic and practical knowledge with wine tasting sessions and excursions to wineries and vineyards in Thailand. The teacher is a highly skilled and experienced Food and Beverage Professional and former sommelier, Christophe Mercier from France.
The Wine Studies Course will run over a 10 week term. It is a 45-hour program approved by the Thai Ministry of Education offered in January, April, July and October every year. We welcome applicants for July 2013 term but please note: there are only 12 places available for each course.
