Greatest career accomplishment
I'm grateful to have had many wonderful experiences practicing general vet med. In addition, I completed the veterinary medical acupuncture training at CSU and obtained my CVA through IVAS in 2005. Also, I completed the canine massage course at CSU and later took a chiropractic course. I opened my practice in 2003 and mostly perform acupuncture, massage and laser therapy at a few clinics in the NM. I work out of Ray Hudgell's and Peter Schwarz's and also do some house calls. I absolutely love working and it doesn't feel like work.
Greatest accomplishment outside of professional career
Jack and I married in 2009 on the beach in San Diego. We have a great time together, always learning and growing on a daily basis.

One of my clients was the script supervisor of Breaking Bad and I gratefully got to be an extra and meet Jonathan Banks. It was a blast!

Our daughter Maddie is 13. Both enjoy school, sports and hanging out with anyone but their parents. They still hang out with Nick and I occasionally.
Pets Just one now, Charlie, who is a Golden Retriever. He can fill an empty house and definitely makes life more interesting. Charlie is 3 and brings much needed enthusiasm and joy to a house with two teens.
Hobbies/Interests
Hiking and days at the beach. Also taking in a lot of football and soccer games these days (Alex and Maddie). I love the fields of sustainable growth and renewable energy and find articles/books on these subjects fascinating.
Most memorable event(s) from vet school days
Changing out a trach tube regularly on a LARGE but very docile bull. Long hours spent in the anatomy lab as freshmen. Small animal advanced surgery lab with Kathy, we did pretty well for two girls from the barn. I thought it was amazing that two mules were anesthetized when only one in the team needed surgery. They could not stand to be apart. Fred and Barney were quite a pair. Losing a needle in a haystack (literally) on Memorial Day weekend with Dr. Traub-Dargatz looking on...actually glaring on: the horse was in isolation and we had to move everything and a crew had to clear the isolation stall because of the lost needle. Did I mention it was a holiday and Dr. Traub-Dargatz had better things to do? Rotations out in the field with Dr. LaRue Johnson and Dr. Dinsmore. The unbelievable amount of pressure that a cow's rectum can exert on one's arm when palpating. Playing soccer with Dennis Madden's (necropsy guru) Count Cork team. In one game I had been taken out several times by an opposing player (a young man), Ian Orme (our microbiology professor) came in for me, flattened the young man on the next play, and came right out again. The player never bothered me after that. Thank you Dr. Orme. Being taught by amazing instructors at the forefront of their fields: thank you Dr. Garry, Dr. Ogilvie, Dr. Lappin, Dr. Greco, Dr. Miller and others...The first two veterinary school Christmas plays!

There is no one great accomplishment for me, but many smaller ones… Pulling a calf with two 70 year old farmers for assistants, I did not lose the calf or either of the gentlemen. Using my calving experience from senior rotations to help out a Shiba Inu with dystocia (c-section averted). Knowing that the collapsed, postpartum dog likely has hypocalcaemia and having everything ready to go when the test result confirms that. Watching that dog seemingly bounce back to life within a few minutes of treatment...those are the great moments.

My marriage and family: Our children are growing into two young adults of whom we are very proud, a work in progress but Nick and I seem to be doing some things right.

Greatest career accomplishment
After staying home (ie: only working 30 hours a week) after my son was born, my practice went in to a horrifying downward spiral. In 2011 I had to decide whether to close, sell, or rally. I rallied, and now my practice is flourishing and a fun place to work! I learned so much more in the process of resuscitating it then I did starting it in the first place- and I'm thankful for both my personal growth and being able to witness the results of that incredibly difficult journey.

Having a happy and loving family and many close friends.

I'd love it if any of you would stop by (even for a few days!) and visit if you are in Colorado. I miss seeing you, as I usually hit the small venues for CE.

Returing to my home town in 1995 to start my private practice. Then becoming a Professional Corporation in 2008. I was a contributor to the article "Epizotic Hemorrhagic Disease in Yaks" which was written by CSU's microbiologist, Dr. Hana Van Campen, in the "Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation".

Wow, lots of memories. Partying at the Sundance - for some reason that crazy Montanan Heidi is a big part of those memories. Anatomy lab, big snow storm during night shift in the barn and trying to drive home to Grover through snowdrifts the next day. The calf delivered from one of our heifers via C-section at school that became a resident and was fed at least every two hours for weeks because everyone loved feeding her a bottle and she grew to be our biggest calf that year due to all the vet student feeding attention. Vet school rodeo, grinding bute and SMZ's in the barn. Pearson's cheesecakes, hanging out with some of the coolest people, who to date, are still some of the coolest people I have come across in my 47 years. So many really great memories.

Meeting Temple Grandin, and clinics were the best of times! Hearing about a fellow classmate emptying the “water” out of the large lavender top tubes… why was the blood clotting? Fainting in the barn at the sight of my own blood after a calf bit me with Rothstein during restraint. Nurses storming out of the equine O.R. telling McIlwraith that he needs them more than they need him. A group of us doing the skit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, and I can’t recall how I got to be the elephant. Lori and I washing and waxing our cars… a lot. Brenda always missing daylight saving times shifts, and the roof being tarred while taking national boards.

Bringing my surgery residency knowledge to the pharmaceutical industry (Roche and Pfizer), raising the bar in animal care and welfare, and bringing new medicine to patients.
