The Yearbook Staff would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Wang, for doing so much of the work; Ms. Napoli, for her help and patience; Mrs. Bab, for proof-reading the pages; Mrs. Depero, for giving us time on the computers; Mr. Samoza, for helping with class photos; and Lauren Brauer; for picking up the pieces.

As we teeter on the brink of adulthood, it feels as though we, the Class of 1994, have been truly united by our high school experience. To arrive at this most triumphant position, with college looming quite fantastically on the horizon, is to know a deep and incessant longing to assert one’s own independence. As necessary as this process of self-discovery may be, we realize that perhaps along the way we failed to express appreciation to those to whom we owe the most thanks. As we strive to answer the transcendental call for self-reliance, perhaps we fear that to thank a parent, or a teacher for guidance would be to compromise that which we are striving for. However, having overcome the hormonal madness and egocentricity that are adolescence, we now recognize our most sincere gratitude to those who have taught, inspired, comforted, and awakened us. Thus, before we race off into a future that we could never have secured alone, the class of 1994 would like to thank our parents and teachers who made this all possible. Thank You!!

-Karyn Larkin Class of 1994

The computers are down in the office! The roof has a major leak! The radiator is puffing steam and a rivulet is flowing across the biology room! Someone has tampered with the fire alarm and I can’t teach with gongs clanging in my ears! The sixth grade boys have had a wet toilet paper fight and the bathroom looks like it has the measles! The electricians can’t find where the crossed line is coming from! The play can’t go on unless the lighting panel is fixed,-NOW! My God, he opened the locker with a torch,

but he ruined my coat!Fore more than thirty-five years there has been an

emergency every day. Thankfully Frank Bommer and Juan Lorenzo have been the Batman and Robin of both the Dwight and Anglo-American International Schools. They were the mid-wives who helped to give

birth to each and every physical addition made to our new school.Their service and sacrifice is mixed with the mortar and fabric of our school’s tradition.

We gratefully thank them-Frank Bommer for thirty-six years and Juan Lorenzo for thirty years of concern for generations of students. W e dedicate the 1993-1994 Yearbook to the real super-heroes of Dwight life!

“ Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral, it is impractical because it is descending in the destruction of all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than to gain his understanding. It seeks to annihilate rather than to convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It leaves society in a monologue rather than a dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself, it creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers.” -Martin Luther King-

Darron T. Craig“ I think there are plenty of good people in America and there are plenty of bad people in America. The bad ones are the ones who seem to have all the power and are in a position to block things that you and I need. Because this is the situation you and I have to preserve the right to do what is necessary to bring an end to that situation. It doesn’t mean that I advocate violence but at the same time I am not against using violence as self-defense. I don’t even call it violence when it is self-defense I call it intelligence.” -Malcolm X-

The Winners Credo

A W inner works harder than a loser and has more time.A Loser is a lways “too busy” to do what is necessary.

A W inner goes through a problem;A Loser goes around it and never gets passed it.

A W inner makes com m itm ents;A Loser makes promises.

A W inner says, “ I ’m good, but not as good as I ought to be .”A Loser says, “ I’m not as bad as other people .”

A W inner listens;A Loser just waits until it is his turn to talk.

A W inner respects those w ho are superior to him and tries to learn som eth in g from them.A Loser resents those w ho are superior to him and tries to find chinks in their armor.

A W inner feels responsible for more than his job;A Loser says, “ I only work here.”

A W inner says, “There ought to be a better way to do it.”A Loser says, “T h a t ’s the way it has always been done here.”

The Dwight Boys Varsity Basketball Team finished the season with an unprecedented 24 wins and just 4 losses. Not only did they win more games than in any other year, but they also were undefeated in the ACIS, and they won the NY SAISAA Division Championship. At one point the boys won an incredible 20 games in a row in their campaign of winning the most games in the Dwight School’s history.

The team was led by experienced Seniors Greg Gould, Aaron Sanchez, and Team Captain Robert Brooks. Junior players who contributed to the team were David Antar, John Bailey, Joe Brown, Cornell Burnette, Justin Mallis, and Scott Sigal. The only Sophomore was Jarett Livingston.

The team combined a deadly fastbreak offense with powerful defense and rebounding to accomplish its achievements. Leading scorers included Joe Brown, Justin Mallis, and Robert Brooks. While John Bailey, Scott Sigal, and Robert Brooks ruled the boards, Robert Brooks and Joe Brown both scored their 1,000th. career points during this memorable season. Coach Cadra wished the Seniors good luck in college, and expressed his belief that if next years team displays a little bit more consistency, then they too will have similar if not better accomplishments than this year’s team.

To my parents: The ones who brought me into their lives by choice, and held on to me because of love. You are all a girl can ask for in parents. I love you both.

Oren & Riki: The greatest brother and sister in the world. 1 do not know how to thank you. You have been there for me through it all. We made it together. Always remember that you are a part of my heart.

To The Class of 1994,

Over the years one of my favorite authors has been Ralph Waldo Emerson and I would like to leave you with a few of his words concerning friendship...

have a great deal more kindness than is ever spoken. Maugtr all the selfishness that chills like east winds the world, the whole family is bathed with an element of love like a fine ether. How many persons we meet in houses, whom we scarcely speak to, whom ye t we honor, and who honor us! How many we see in the street, or sit with in church, whom, though silently, we warmly rejoice to be with! Read the language of these wandering eye-beams. The heart knoweth.

Congratulations and Best Wishes!

William Goodin
