From the Principal’s Desk… Dear Eisenhower Families,

YEAH!! 100% of our third graders completed the IREAD test this week,

and our first graders made a lot of progress on their Terra Nova tests. We hope to complete the remainder of our 4th and 5th grade tests by today. We have been battling some illnesses with our students, which has interrupted testing somewhat. Thank you so much for making sure the students were in school to be able to complete these mandatory assessments.

St. Patrick’s Day in CP was a big day for Eisenhower School. A record 32 participants raised a ton of money to benefit St. Baldrick’s mission to eliminate all childhood cancers. Our original lofty goal was $5,000. The Eisenhower family more than tripled that goal and took away the winning community trophy (even smokin’ the Mayor’s team!) with a phenomenal $15,500.00 raised!! Wow!!! We have much to be proud of. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Dusseau and all the parents and students who helped to coordinate this effort. It is a very proud day for Eisenhower School! MUSIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Ready? Set? Sing! Please join us on Thursday evening, March 27th, as our Third Grade classes present their annual program, “Music…by the Numbers.” All of our songs will amaze you with the connections between music and mathematics! We’ll add, subtract, and divide with songs and the audience will get a chance to show off their multiplication skills too. Students are asked to report to their classrooms at 6:45pm (no earlier, please) and to wear a shirt with some kind of NUMBER on it. The program will start at 7:00pm and finish at approximately 7:30pm. The children are working so hard and are very excited to sing for their family and friends. Mark your calendars and come join us! MARCH IS “DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH” The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY) is a resource for information and support in the area of childhood disabilities. Children are naturally curious and eager to learn. Early dialogue about disabilities helps children develop an understanding of how some of their peers may learn differently. Kid’s Corner is an excellent site that allows children and their families to explore and learn about different areas of disabilities. Developed as a part of the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, the site includes topics such as Book Nook, Games, Fun Facts and Movies and More. NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK NEWS The Crown Point Library is hosting its annual “A Hole Lot of Fun” Mini Golf Event on Saturday, April 12th from 10am to 3pm. The cost is $5.00 per person or $20 for a group of five. There will be raffles, free refreshments, games and more in the Family Fun Zone. There will also be a “HOLE DECORATING CONTEST” BETWEEN AREA SCHOOLS. Show your school spirit and come out and play and vote for Eisenhower Elementary! Three winning schools will win a cash prize to purchase books for their school library – first place is $300, second place is $200 and third place is $100. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Crown Point Library. Our Principal, Mrs. Chapko, said she would match the amount that Eisenhower wins in the Mini Golf School Library Decorating Contest. So make sure you come out to the Crown Point Library and VOTE for EISENHOWER’S EMERALD CITY (MINI GOLF HOLE NUMBER 14)! NEWS FROM OUR NURSE’S OFFICE The State of Indiana now requires new incoming kindergartners to have two Hepatitis A vaccines. The first vaccine needs to be after one year of age, and the second at least 6 months after the first. Please check with your doctor on your child’s immunization status, or feel free to call me for any questions. Also, once again I am asking for parents to put extra pants and socks in your child’s backpack or locker. The melting snow is contributing to many cold wet feet now. Thank you! PENNY WARS Our Student Council will be sponsoring a Penny War after

Spring Break, so start saving your pennies! “Penny Wars” will run from Monday, April 21st through Friday, April 25th. The money raised will be used to make improvements in our school. A Culligan water bottle with your teacher’s name on it will be outside your

classroom door. Here’s how it works---you put your pennies in your own jar and your dollars and silver coins in another class but NOT your own class bottle. The goal is to end up with a positive total. Again, you only put pennies in your own jar and silver coins and dollars in other classroom jars. The class that raises the most money is not always the winner; it is the class with the largest positive amount. Mrs. Dusseau & the Student Council Members ��
