From the Principal’s Desk… Dear Eisenhower Families, It has definitely been a busy and exciting

week as we move ever closer to our Winter

Break! Please note, our break does not start until

Wednesday, December 20th. Everyone is scheduled to

return to school on Wednesday, January 3rd. There will be

14 days to play, rest, have fun, and make all those special

memories!! Our holiday parties are scheduled for Monday,

December 18th, followed by our tying up of all loose ends

day on Tuesday, with our final Mini Economy for 2017

scheduled for 2:00p.m. Enjoy the pictures below from this

Mrs. Robinson, our music teacher, hosted her first Eisenhower

music concert of the school year. Winter Fest was a wonderful

success. The fourth graders amazed us with their snowflake ribbon

dancing, combined with their singing, to create a very special treat!

Our newly refurbished bells sounded wonderful, along with our

melodious choir! Thank you so much for your support! ☺

A special “thank you” to Mrs. Thiel and her crew of moms who

helped out for the past week to make Santa’s Secret Shop

possible. It is a yearlong shopping endeavor ending with an intense

week of shopping and wrapping! We could not do this for the kids,

who absolutely LOVE it, without our dedicated Ike moms. Your

efforts are very much appreciated!

Our staff holiday luncheon was fabulous! A special thanks to all the

special moms who coordinated this event, and to our wonderful

Chef, Steve Coppolillo. Thank you, too, to all the parents who

donated funds,

desserts, and

watched a

classroom to

make this

event so

wonderful and

possible. Thank

SCRIP ORDERS Christmas is around the corner! Use Scrip Cards for all of your holiday supplies and gifts. Scrip order forms went home this week and will be due back in the office on Tuesday, December 12th, by 10:00am. They will be ready for pick up on Friday, December 15th. By getting your cards through our school, not only does this help Eisenhower but you earn money as well. Use these cards for gas, medication, pet supplies, groceries, Christmas gifts, etc. Also, please make certain that you let us know if you want your Scrip Cards held in the office for pickup. NEHS - COAT DONATIONS National Elementary Honor Society is sponsoring a Coat Drive which runs

EISENHOWER SCHOOL’S MIDWEST OPEN GYM NIGHT Come to Eisenhower School’s Open Gym Night on Saturday, December 16th from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Midwest Gym (located at 1204 Erie Court in Crown Point). The cost is $10 per child. Bring your family and friends to a fun and safe environment. This event is open to all! Jump, play and just have fun! Adults can stay

and watch, or drop-off (school age kids) and have a Parent’s Night Out. We have Ike parents chaperoning this event. An adult must sign in the kids. Class Competitions: The class with the most participation will earn $20 mini economy money for each student

that attends the event. Bring friends and relatives as they will count towards helping your class win! This is a good opportunity to let kids come and be kids. Kids can tumble, jump on a trampoline, or just play in the pit. No Jeans Allowed!!! No pants with belts, buckles or rhinestones! You MUST have SOCKS ON to participate. No Barefeet! We are looking for 3-4 chaperones for this event. You will receive $10 (real money) for assisting and your child will earn $20 in mini economy money! CHILD CARE DURING SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS/BREAKS The information below is for parents who use the Before and After School Child Care program.

SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS For School Cancellations, child care will be available from 6:00 a.m. to

6:30 p.m. at Solon Robinson Elementary and Jerry Ross Elementary Schools. The cost to attend is $7.00 per session each day. Session 1 6:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Session 2 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Session 3 2:00 – 6:30 p.m.

WINTER BREAK During Winter Break, child care will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Solon Robinson Elementary School. The dates are: December 20, 21, 22 and December 27, 28, 29. The cost to attend is $7.00 per session each day.

STUDENT COUNCIL - ANGEL TREE Student Council is sponsoring an Angel Tree for the holiday season. We

help the families of Eisenhower that need our assistance. We have an Angel tree in the front by the office that will only have mainly wishes

for toys. We would like for each child to receive at least

one toy. Please stop by to get an angel or have your child take one. After you have bought the toy, please return it to the office. You can either wrap it and attach the angel

from the tree or send it in and Student Council will wrap the gift. All angels and donations must be returned to school by Monday, December 11th. We are also accepting gift cards for the grocery store. In addition, we would like to purchase clothes for each child, which will be

done a little differently. We are asking for a $3.00 to $5.00 donation from each child, which is not mandatory. Please send the money in an envelope earmarked “Angel Tree.” Student Council thanks you for all of

NEWS FROM OUR HOME/SCHOOL FACILITATOR The concept of “GRIT” was popularized by University of Pennsylvania psychologist Angela Duckworth. Grit is defined as having perseverance

and passion for long term goals and working through challenges, despite failure and adversity. Grit is a non-cognitive skill, similar to curiosity, resilience, and self-control. Researchers have come to realize that grit has an impact on students’ long-term success just as much, if not more,

than academic skills or IQ. So what does this mean? When the math gets too difficult or the reading gets boring, grit is what keeps students from giving up! Can we teach our children to have grit? YES we can!
