Virginia Waterways DYC 7th Annual Clean Up DayJoin Onna Grimm for the annual Coastal Waterways Clean Up Day of DYC’s end of Broad Creek on September 18th. Meet in the Ship’s Store at 10 AM. Wear water shoes and work gloves.

All bags and record sheets will be provided. This clean up is part of the International Coastal Cleanup. Much of the debris we find on beaches and oceans, originates upstream in rivers and creeks. The effects of this debris on Earth’s habitats and biologi-cal resources are devastating. In addition to posing a threat to human health, marine debris kills birds, fish, seals and sea turtles through entanglement and inges-tion. Since 1988, more than two million pounds of trash have been collected and recorded by volun-teers during Coastal Cleanup in Virginia. Spend an hour or two and make a huge impact! Contact Onna Grimm 804-776-9898 or [email protected].

Shoreline Project At DYC Picnic AreaWhat an exciting time at Deltaville Yachting Center! John Tippett, Executive Director of Friends of the Rappahannock, contacted DYC to partner on the shoreline demonstration project on the area between C Dock and D Dock. The ‘living shoreline’ method will be used in conjunction with Hammertime Marine. Informative signs will be placed in the area by Friends of the Rappahannock to encourage other land owners use of this method of erosion control. At the distribution of this DYC Newsletter, work on the project will have begun. Thank you for your volunteer help! Come visit the project to see how a ‘living shoreline’ works! PREPARE FOR COLD WEATHERWinterize Your Boat To Prevent DamageCall Now to get on the DYC Win-terization and Haul Out list. Workorders are done in order of date filed. Scheduling your win-terization or haul out time should be done now. Specify the date you would like the work done. If you wait to do the workorder until you are done using the boat for the season, your workorder will go at the bottom of the sched-ule list and DYC may not have enough time to do the work be-fore freezing weather. Remember that NO UNATTENDED LIGHT-BULBS OR HEAT SOURCES are allowed turned on to prevent freezing. Do not assume that the power to the docks will be on all winter, since power outages oc-cur and DYC maintenance takes place in the ‘off-season’. DYC Winterization Rate Sheets are available from Laura Martin [email protected] 804-776-9898.

Are You On the 2010 Storm Haul Out List? Each year on January 1st, the DYC Storm Haul Out List is wiped clean and started new. Deltaville Yachting Center’s Storm Haul Out

[email protected] or 804-776-9898. We hope that no ‘named storms’ come toward Deltaville, but pre-planning is much better than last minute panic.

Fishing with B.T.Back again! I hope everyone has had a sucessful season so far. The temperature and humidity was brutal but the fishing was pretty good for some of us. Reelaxer (Wayne), Hold On (Monty), Boss Lady (Bobby) and High Gear (Larry) have had some good days on the flounder bite in the Buoy 42 area. A few even had good luck on some large Cobia. Congrats! The season is getting ready to change and the cooler water temps should get the fish moving and feeding for their fall migration. Large spot and croaker will be biting at the Spike, Butlers Hole and the Mooring Buoy up by the Norris bridge. Blood Worms should be all you need and the local bait shops will help you with what you need. The schools move around so if you find the fleets the fish will be close by or try one of your favorite holes cause they could be there also. Striper season opens in Octo-ber and by November they should start to school up good. The area of Windmill Bar .Buoy 2R or Fleets Bay should hold some nice fish or try live spot at the Norris Bridge for that trophy striper. Tog fishing will be productive as the water temperature drops so get some clam and hard crabs and head to Gwynn Island Reef , Iron Ore or the Cell to hook up on one of the best eating , hard-est pulling and uglest fish the bay has to offer. Remember that if you are not getting snagged you are not Tog fishing. Take a kid or older friend or neighbor who dosen’t get to go fishing much out on the Rapp for the fantastic Spot bite this fall and they won’t forget you for the experience. Create a memory for someone. Please be careful on the water and tight lines till next time.

NERVOUS WRECKB.T.
