DefinitionsDefinition of e-Learninge-learning means the educational content, learning services, and delivery solutions that support and enable Internet-based learning. e-Learning is either asynchronous ( self paced) or synchronous (conducted in real time).
The components of elearning as follows:-
Content. Content covers course structure, multimedia, simulations, testing, and assessments. off-the-shelf generic or bespoke
Learning services. These services include learning needs assessments and learning strategy development, program-building components, content design/development, technical and systems integration, site management/hosting, maintenance, and online mentoring.
Delivery solutions. These solutions include training authoring tools, course management systems, collaborative software and virtual classrooms, and add-on tools. The delivery solutions category does not include hardware and network infrastructure.
Trends/Future• Blended learning
• Learning Content Management Systems (LCMSs) and learning objects
• Web collaboration or Live e-Learning
• Simulations, learning games, videos, and storytelling.
• Training without trainers, version 1: Knowledge sharing
• Training without trainers, version 2: Informal knowledge exchange
The current trends are a move from learning as reactive, isolated events to learning as a sustainable, proactive process in the organization. They seek to grow and sustain the learning career of each worker.

‘It is the use of two or more distinct methods of training. This may include combinations such as……..’

What is blended learning?
Blended Learning
Bad blends
Default
• Design decision made before design
• what trainers think learners like
• “ feel it’s time for a change”
• reason and research played no significant role
Blended Learning
Bad blends
Classroom preservation
• classroom seen as synonymous with learning
• “we have classrooms and trainers, let’s use them”
E-learning panacea
• will solve all of our problems
• LMS plus catalogue
Blended LearningBad blends
Velcro
• stick classroom and e-learning together
• no integration
• pre and post course!
Duplicated model
• multiple methods of delivery
• duplication

Knowledge ManagementKnowledge Management is the key to institutionalising the connection of people and the sharing of knowledge within organisations.
Colleagues contribute and reuse information from around the world to get their jobs done smarter, faster and better.
You can get information when and how you need it, dynamically, with the ability to customise the tool to suit your needs.

Generic Courseware
Pro’s:- Packaged content is cost-effective to buy, and packaged IT training courseware can be very effective.
Con’s:- Business, professional skills and vertical-market learning content has to be industry specific, business specific, and customizable to be of value, all of which requires immense dedication, investment, and labor from the vendor—more so than makes economic sense.
Generic Courseware
Demonstration
Bespoke Courseware
Pro’s:- Well-designed, high-quality CBT can have great instructional and performance-boosting value.
Con’s:- It is very costly, slow and labor-intensive to develop, quickly obsolete, and suffers from a house-of-cards software limitation—all of which prevents its value from gaining long-term or large-scale momentum.
Bespoke Courseware

Summary
Corporate e-Learning that is concerned with business-critical (“important”) training must be based in a company’s internal performance-driving systems, shaped around its unique business requirements, and grown and managed within the framework of the company itself if it is going to work. And to do this oneself, the first step is enterprise technology to serve as a platform—in other words, an LMS.
