ANNAPURNA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY
On 8th September 2014, Annapurna celebrated the International
Literacy Day with UNESCO 2014 theme “Literacy and Sustainable
Development” at 10 district branches, with an objective to promote
community attention towards importance of education in achieving
significant economic and social advancement. Women from various Self
Help Groups (SHG) from different areas participated in the programme.
Pictured here, Team Annapurna with Rajjankia Gram Panchayat,
Khurda District, Mr. Pratap Dalei, Sarpanch-Rajjankia Gram Panchayat
and AMPL COO, Mr. Sanjay Pattanaik. They addressed the session on
Education and Sustainable Development & Health and Sanitation.
Various games were also organized to make the session participatory
and impactful. Debate Competition was organized among participants
on the topic “Educate a Women and You Educate a Family”. Women
were asked to share their understanding and experience related to
importance of education.Extempore was organized with women
explaining the flow chart on health and Sanitation. A few women were
facilitated to learn doing signature. Winners of various competitions
were awarded and each participant was felicitated with Pen as a token
of Importance of Literacy. Participants were very happy and said that
this type of activity should be organized regularly.
Active participation was seen across branches and districts, with Mr.
Binod Bihari Mishra (Zonal Manager), Mr. Jeevan Paudel (Area
Manager), Ms. Jyoti Smita Naik (Branch Manager), Mr. Tapan Kr.
Behera (District Coordinator), Mr. Pranab Kr. Pattanaik from Tangi
Branch and a team from Head office under the guidance of our MD,
Director, COO, and CFM contributed to the success of Programme.

NEW BRANCHES OPENED IN JHARKHAND
Annapurna has further expanded its operations in Jharkhand opening
four new branches in Jamshedpur, Ramgarh, Ranchi and Hazaribag.
This becomes the fifth state in which AMPL operates with the other four
being Maharashtra, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The
response has been good so far as far as increase in clientele is
concerned and the company would be hoping to penetrate into the state
further.
Some of the other recently opened branches were at Burahanpur,
Khandwa and Harda in MP, Akola and Bhusawal in Maharashtra, and
also Mungeli in Chhattisgarh.
Annapurna raised another NCD worth $ 4 million (Rs. 24 Crores) from
Blue Orchard, a leading asset manager based in Switzerland. Since it s
inception, Blue Orchard has made in excess of USD 2 Bn in loans to
microfinance institutions globally, and is committed to advancing socially
responsible financial inclusion worldwide.

CLIENT RIGHTS AND CLIENT PROTECTION TRAINING
An awareness programme on Client Rights and Protection was organized by
Annapurna to increase understanding level of Self Help Group (SHG)
members towards their rights like Loan Products, Interest Rate, Insurance,
and Grievance Redressal Mechanism.
Shri Govind Pattanaik, Managing Director, Annapurna, along with Shri Sanjay
Pattanaik inaugurated and addressed the session.
A total of 17 SHG members of different SHGs namely Mahavir SHG, Maa
Anapurna SHG, Maa Santoshi SHG, Baba Raghunath SHG, Baba SHG
Munteswar, Sri Kapilnath SHG, and Maa Tarini from Khurda and Balipatna
participated in the training.
The training was started with pre-training assessment on Clients Rights and
Principle followed by training by Mr. Arun, Ms. Bandita and Ms. Beauty on
Client Rights and Grievance Redressal Mechanism. SHG members also
shared their experience on entrepreneurship and how Annapurna helped them
in becoming leader and leading respectful life.
At the end of the session SHG members learned about interest rate, how can
they file complaint, toll free no., and RBI Grievance Redresssal Officer.

TRAINING’S ORGANIZED
MASON TRAINING ORGANIZED
AMPL organized a Mason training as a part of SWASTH initiative from 22nd of August
to 24th of August which aimed at enhancing the skills of local masons in terms of
sustainable toilet construction which would allow them to provide better serve their
clients.
The three day training began with introduction of 18 participants from Ganjam District
that included blocks of Chatrapur, Partapur, Hinjilicut and Berhampur. The classroom
focused on single pit toilet construction highlighting the general wrong practices along
with an estimate of material required to construct a toilet.
Eighteen masons were divided into two teams and were taken to two separate sites
that was decided strategically based on maximum visibility. Material for constructing the
toilets were available in the village and the first day saw digging of pit followed by
plastering of inner walls and ceramic pan on the next day. After the complete
construction of toilets, a meeting was held to discuss and analyse the comparison
between the actual cost and the estimated cost.
WORKSHOP ON PWD SENSITIZATION AND DISABLED PEOPLES INSTITUTION CONNECTING SESSION
A one day workshop on Person with Disability (PwD) sensitization and Disable People
Institutions (DPIs) connecting session was organized by Annapurna and People’s
Forum which was supported by Accion and V-shesh.The objectives of the workshop
was to generate awareness among Field Officers and other staffs regarding
identification of PwD, and how microfinance can contribute in financial inclusion of PwD.
A total of 24 field officers from different branches and other staffs from head office
participated in the workshop. Ms. Radhika and Mr. Laxmidhar were observer from V-
shesh. It was an interactive and knowledgeable session. In the DPIs connecting session
Mr Rabindra Kumar Tripathy, General secretary (All Odisha Orthopaedically
Handicapped Welfare Association); Mr Ajay Kumar Samal, General Secretary (Odisha
Association for Blind); Mr. Murtunjaya Mohaptra (Odisha Association For Deaf); and Mr.
Dusmanta Kumar Das ( Maa Mangala Yuva Pasrisad, Delanga) participated.
Mr. Dibyajyoti Pattanaik (Director) briefed about Annapurna and its vision. The session
was full of discussions on how Annapurna is contributing in PwD financial inclusion and
what are the scopes for DPIs and Annapurna to work together for better inclusion of
PwD. DPIs were impressed with the opportunities Annapurna is providing to PwD and
was interested in knowing more about the activities Annapurna is doing.
TEAM ANNAPURNA CELEBRATES DIWALI WITH MISSION ASHRA, PEOPLE’S FORUM
AMPL, along with People’s Forum celebrated Diwali with its entire team at
Mission Ashra on 21st October, 2014. This event was celebrated with 240
mentally ill women, who are a resident of mission Ashra, along with their 40
children. In addition to this 50 children from Jeevan Jyoti Shishu Graha were
also a part of the event. The event Dil, Diya and Diwali had various cultural
performances, including dance performances by kids in front of the entire
Annapurna and Mission Ashra team. The main idea behind the event was to
provide the residents of Mission Ashra some form of joy and bliss through such
performances and their involvement.
The event began with the CMD, Mr. Gobinda Chandra Pattanaik sharing his
thoughts and feelings for the occasion. He also encouraged the team members
and asked for their support in taking the cause forward. Along with the CMD, Mr.
Dibyajyoti Pattanaik (Director) and Mr. Satyajit Das (CFM) were also present.
The mentally destitute residents and their children participated by bursting
crackers and spreading light. Loads of firecrackers were enjoyed by everyone
which was followed by some mesmerizing dance performances.
