THURSTON BREVETT 2018

WHY NORTHEASTERN?

For me, it was between Northeastern and a top 10 research university.

I liked the vibe from Northeastern and the University Scholars Program.

It’s very supportive and there are so many opportunities here. The atmosphere

at Northeastern is bright—if there’s something you want to do, you will be

supported in pursuing that goal.

THURSTON’S NORTHEASTERN JOURNEY:

I want to go into research—to figure out the world, to help make things, and

to solve problems. I feel that’s my purpose as well as my challenge in life. And

I’m already doing that at Northeastern. I’m already working in a lab, and I’m

learning about my field and also about the workplace. Northeastern definite-

ly pushes you to learn how to interact with people and how to achieve your

chosen path. I started doing that my very first semester.

The University Honors Program at Northeastern offers exceptionally motivated students like you an opportunity to enhance your educational experience. The Honors Program First Year Experience establishes connections built on a set of shared values: interdisciplinary thinking, a willingness to accept challenges both inside and outside the classroom, the development of a global mindset, and a commitment to community.

WHY NORTHEASTERN?

From my first visit to campus, I felt that Northeastern’s highest priority was to

prepare me for life after college. I thought that the professional experiences, the

connections, and the opportunities abroad offered a unique, multi-disciplinary, and

experiential education that would set me up for the real world—and that’s exactly

what has happened.

RYAN’S NORTHEASTERN JOURNEY:

I began my Northeastern journey undeclared and explored a range of different classes. After taking a fascinating psychobiology course, I declared my major as neuroscience.

My final co-op, working as a research assistant with the Sports Medicine Service at Mass General, was particularly influential. I was able to shadow physicians and conduct clinical research in the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine. This experience and the connections I made there gave me confidence in applying to medical school.
