Memories of Heart MountainSam Mihara—Retired Boeing Rocket Scientist Heart Mountain, elevation 8,123 feet, can be found in northern Wyoming between Cody and Powell, and true to its name given by the Crow Indians, its shape resembles a buffalo heart. The landmark lent its name to a nearby 740 acre plot of land that at one time was the 3rd largest town in Wyoming, the Heart Mountain War Relocation Center. During World War II, between August 1942 and November 1945, the Heart Mountain Center was home to near 14,000 Japanese Americans and Sam Mihara was one of those individuals. In his presentation, he will recount the history of the relocation of west coast Japanese Americans including the legal actions before, during and after the war. He will share personal memories and perceptions of day-to-day life in an internment camp. Date: Monday, September 22 Time: 7:00pm Cost: FREE Location: Fine Arts Auditorium*Completion of a Community Education class registration will be required of all attendees. This can be done by phone at 532-8213 or 532-8323.

Travel Log: A View of ThailandInstructor: Court MerriganThe Thai people call their home “land of freedom” because Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia never colonized by a European power, thus they’ve not experienced a detachment from their culture. Although Thailand is a primary travel destination for over 16 million foreigners a year who want to experience the great food, tropical climate, majestic mountains, and great beaches, this travel log will have a bit different focus. Our tour guide, Court Merrigan lived in Thailand for five years and returned to Thailand with his family this past summer. He will bring a not-so touristy focus in his presentation, and a view of the country that only a person who has actually lived in Thailand could have. Join Court as he shares his Thailand experience through words and picture. Date: Thursday, October 2 Time: 6:00-8:00pmCost: FREE Location: Tebbet 131*Completion of a Community Education class registration will be required of all attendees. Hemoglobin A1C - Measures historical blood sugar control for up to three months. This test is recommended twice a year for diabetics.
