VICTORIES DON T HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT Newsleer Date: July 26, 2018 Easton District Newsletter Matthew 13:44-46 (NRSV) The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on find- ing one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Kingdom Desire (a sonnet by Doug Ridley) I asked myself, Do you want God to be your kingIs that your heart's desire? Are you both willing to commit your spirit to such loyalty, and able, faithfully, to live the kingdom way of loveI'm free to be a child of light. Can I stand true, no matter what the test or cost? Too few, it seems, can give themselves to that degree. I want the Lord to be my king; to live the kingdom life right now, on earth, the way I will in heaven; and have God's reign hold sway in all I say and do. I want to give my heart in true devotion to my Lord, and have love be the goal I live toward. Jesus taught us to desire, seek after, and procure the kingdom of God as our own. It is nothing more or less than the reign, the rule, of God over our lives, to which we give our loyalty, our devotion, and our service. Hopefully, the sonnet reflects that teaching in a personal reflection, which is not just mine, but may well be yours as well. Inspire in us, O God, a strong desire for your kingdom – to have you be our king.
