With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” Ezra 3: 11
A Pastor I worked for years ago always said, “God is good.” And the audience replied, “All the time.” This is an absolute truth. Whether we can see or feel His goodness all the time is not what is im-portant. To know and stand firm on this truth is what God wants us to do. God loves us and knows what is best for each of us. He wants us to trust Him in all circumstances and to thank Him for everything-even tough times!
As you celebrate this Thanksgiving, my prayer for you and your family is that you will also sing to the Lord: “He is good; his love for me endures forever!”
Happy Thanksgiving, Kathi Knowles

This fall is a great time to get involved in the Emmaus Baptist Church Youth Group and here are some of the exciting opportunities available for Emmaus Baptist Church youth!
On November 1st, after the 11:00 service, we will be having our annual BBQ Fundraiser. Come on out for some great country/gospel music and enjoy some delicious barbecue served by our youth and support our Youth Group! On No-vember 8th, we will be having our Operation: Christmas Child wrapping party
at 6:00pm Bring your family, bring some shoeboxes and small travel size toys and toiletries for a needy child and really make a difference this year in someone life! We are also going to be having our annual Turkey Hunt on November 14th from 1-6:30pm. Youth will enjoy our annual scaven-ger hunt and this year, it will have a Star Wars theme! Afterwards we will have a bonfire, smores and dinner. So plan on coming on out and bring your friends. Lastly, I just wanted to mention our annual trip to Lynchburg, Va for Winterfest! Winterfest is a 2 day long concert of today’s best Christian bands. During the day we explore Liberty University and at night we rock out. We will be leaving Dec. 30th and coming back January 1st. For cost, please contact Jeremy Humphrey.
Thank you and God bless. Jeremy
As we enter the holiday season, it is easy to be overwhelmed by family, school and church activities. Here are some important dates to highlight on your calendar. On November 7th 3-5pm the homeschool group, “Classical Conversation” will have a recital in the sanctuary. The church is invited to this annual event. Saturday Nov. 14th @ 7pm award winning “Soul’d Out Quartet, from Ohio will bless us with a message in song. The com-munity Thanksgiving service will be November 22nd at 6pm, location TBA. The wor-ship choir is working on music for the dramatic musical, “One Quiet Night” rehearsal
7:30pm Wednesday. ebckids choir rehearses Sundays @ 5-6pm in the choir room. The ebckid’s choir will also sing in the dramatic musical. And don’t forget the first Sunday of Advent is November 29th. It is not too late to sign up for ebckid’s choir and worship choir. Also Jeremy and I are looking stage hands and folks to help with set design.
My prayer is that you find time to join us. There is always room for more in the choir. Child care is provided upon request.
Blessings, Kathy Heath

PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE:
“THE FACES OF GOD” Two recent and great delights came during our church’s return to participation in the Poquoson Seafood Festival in October, where a tent/booth was set up in the children’s section for providing free glitter tattoos.
On the way to their “glitterings” from those who did great and caring jobs of artistically placing and painting images for them, children’s parents found tables of tracts about our need for Jesus Christ, both for now and for eternity. There were also free Bibles for anyone who needed or wanted them, or knew someone else who did. All of those volunteers who gave liberally of their time and talents, greeting and engaging with people coming near the tent: they were my first delight… how they shared smiles and time with people, most of whom they did not know, was a great blessing to see. Their visible love brought to my mind a famous line from the epilogue of Victor Hugo’s Les Miserable: “To love another person is to see the face of God.” But there was even more delight, that which came from our purpose there: to bring joy and show love to children from inside and outside the community, from wherever they came. Specifically, here was my second delight: to see the smiling faces of those children as they left the area, having been touched by those who were the hands and feet of Jesus to them those days.
In “What On Earth Am I Here For?” Rick Warren speaks of doing things that bring God pleasure… things that make God smile. Have you ever wondered what it looks like when God smiles? I saw many times in that tent what I have imagined God’s smile looks like. My image is the full delight that comes to me when I get to witness the epiphany moment - perhaps accompanied by a quick intake of breath, widening eyes, and raised eyebrows - when a child smiles. It is a pure and holy moment. I get to see it in times of unbridled joy that occur when our 7-year-old Alena’s pleasure in a moment springs to life on her face, and… she smiles.
And when I saw children leaving the tent so enthralled, not at having a tattoo, but at being touched by the outreaching hand of God, their smiles spoke of God’s smiling down upon us all. For these gifts, I say in worship, “Thanks be to God!” For I remember God’s Word in Psalm 127:3, and one of the most important prayers in all Judaism, found in Deuteronomy 6, beginning with the Shema: “Hear, O Israel… The words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
When we realize that children are a gift, a reward from God, and we show it… God smiles. May God continue to smile upon the Children’s Ministry of Emmaus Baptist Church.
