IMMERSION SPANISH COURSE IN ESPINOSO DE COMPLUDO (SPAIN):
“DISCOVER THE “CAMINO DE SANTIAGO” (WAY OF ST. JAMES) THROUGH EL
BIERZO” (LEÓN, SPAIN) AUGUST 12TH-26TH
Would you like to improve your level of Spanish living with two teachers and a small group of students for two
weeks? (max. 12 students) Would you like to enjoy your time in a small village set in the beautiful natural “Camino
de Santiago” surroundings? Would you like to know more about the “Camino de Santiago”? Enrol our course.
It’s a unique two weeks immersion programme that combines the learning and improvement of Spanish language not
only through its real use in everyday situations and contexts but also during 30 class hours, including “Lesson on the
move: Trekking with History”, and a variety of workshops, visits and excursions to magical places connected to El
Camino de Santiago.

WHERE
In Espinoso de Compludo, to 19 km. from Ponferrada, in the county of León, in Castilla y León. To 4h15 from
Madrid; to 2h40 from La Coruña; to 2h45 from Oviedo; to 3h from Santiago de Compostela. Ask us how to reach
Ponferrada, we will pick you up there.
The nearest airports are placed in Madrid, Santiago, A Coruña,
Valladolid, Oviedo and Santander (low cost airlines). There are
regular services from these cities to Ponferrada by bus with
www.alsa.es To travel by train, visit www.renfe.es
NUMBER OF TEACHERS
Two teachers: one for every 6 students.
CLASS HOURS
30 class hours in a small group: a maximum of 6 students. It includes “Lesson on the move: trekking with History” in
a group.
+ 4 individual lessons (30 minutes each one).
+ Practical workshops: History, gastronomy, cooking, traditional pastries, creativity, dance and “Flamenco”
(“sevillanas”: typical dance from the South of Spain), gymkhana guidance, creative writing, cinema, music, literature,
theatre, regional and socio-cultural diversity in Spain, games, el Camino de Santiago. Not all of them will be carried
out during the course, depending on the needs of the group.

OBJECTIVES
- To use Spanish as the only language of communication during the course.
- To consolidate your level and/or reach the next level described in MCER (A2B1B2C1C2).
- To increase the self-confidence and assertiveness through real situations with the aim of encoring interaction, oral
comprehension and production in a natural way as well as the socio-cultural aspects that are acquired by “doing”, by
experimenting and experiencing.
- To approach the language and to the culture in a lively and multidisciplinary way through everyday life, History,
Art, Geography, Gastronomy and nature in the surroundings of El Bierzo.
- To know socio cultural aspects and to develop and integrate these new skills and communication strategies in
context.
- To know locations and scenic sites of the Camino de Santiago as it passes through El Bierzo, past and present.
- To learn the folklore and tradition of the fest of “La Asunción” (august 15th-16th) at locations through El Bierzo.
CONTENTS
- Spanish Language: all aspects of the language (levels A2 to B2)
- History, culture, art and gastronomy of El Bierzo and main points of the Camino de
Santiago through El Bierzo.
- Sociolinguistics and sociocultural skills.
- Geography and landscapes of the Camino.
- Gastronomy of the Camino de Santiago
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AND VISITS
*Blue, points of the Camino de Santiago.
- Guided visit of the Templars Castle in Ponferrada*.
- Guided visit of Ponferrada.
- Guided visit of the vineyards and wineries and tasting area.
- Guided tour of Villafranca del Bierzo (key point on the Camino de Santiago).
- Excursion to Molinaseca during the local festivity (Assumption’s day) "Folklore and popular Camino de Santiago
(stop on the Camino de Santiago).
- Visit to "Las Médulas" stop at the view in point of Orellán.
- Gatherings and social activities.
- Festival closing reception at the Casa Rural “Las Cuatro Estaciones”.
CLASS ON THE MOVE: WALKING TOURS "NATURE AND HISTORY" ALLONG THE
CAMINO DE SANTIAGO AND EL BIERZO
- Hiking Trail: "Las Médulas, ancient Roman mines"
- Hiking Trail: "Nature and History from Espinoso to Herrería de Compludo.
- Hiking Trail: "The Bridges of Malpaso to Molinaseca"
- Hiking Trail "Peñalba" / waterfalls Route / Route the Yew tree in San Cristobal". To be confirmed.
The "Lessons on the move" combine cultural tours, nature and historical and cultural content in situ, so that students
can learn visually and in motion. In addition, both "Lessons on the move" as cultural visits have goals related to
language sites or natural environments and cultural attractions, in order to acquaint the student with the social and
cultural reality of the area.
Finally, after dinner, the student has the option to rest or participate in one of our social activities in a relaxed and
rest at the end of the day: a relax conversation around a table or on a terrace, a movie, games, karaoke, etc. Note
that both the workshops and the activities will be selected to implement what you learn and put it in a context.
Moreover, both "Lessons on the move" and the cultural visits have linguistic targets related to the places and natural
environment of touristic and cultural interest, in order that the students get to know the social and cultural reality of
the area.

In a double room: 1290 €
In a single room: 1450 €

Prices include:
- Transfer from Ponferrada to Espinoso de Compludo (and return): 12/08/2012 and 26/08/2012.

HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS AND
ACCOMODATION
- Accommodation in Espinoso de Compludo in “Casa rural las Cuatro Estaciones” in a single, double or
triple room (depending on contract). All rooms include private bathroom.
- Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner, picnic excursions *).
* For excursions to Ponferrada and Villafranca del Bierzo or Molinaseca a total of two dinners or meals
(as planned) will be free, ie not included in the price.
The house has common areas: living room, dining room, garden and terrace to be used for various social
