ActivitiesSeptember 2011 – March 2012
Integracyjna Szkoła Podstawowa nr 67im. Janusza Korczaka w Łodzi
More often than ever we are being called an ecological school among
pupils and in the local community as well. This results from an
enormous commitment of our school in the activities for the benefit of
protecting the environment and sustainability. Taking part in the
international project Eco School Links is an additional strong booster
that motivates everyone to work.
The official ceremony
inaugurating the activities of our
school within LLP Comenius Eco
School Links took place on 18th
November 2011. We were
honored with the presence of
some eminent guests: a member
of a Polish Senate Maciej
Grubski,
the Headmistress of Education
Support Department in Łodź’s
School Inspectorate Irena
Przybyłek, the Inspector of
Education Department Elżbieta
Kukuła as well as Mrs Ewa
Koźbiał the representative of
Popularizing and Exploitation of
LLP Foundation Program Results.
One of the major points of the program was an official act of
passing the international “Green Flag” certificate by our Headmistress
Barbara Celmerowska to the representatives of the Students Council.
This document honors the school’s commitment into introducing
model patterns of solutions within ecological education. Such a
distinction was given only to three institutions in the Voivodeship of
Łódź in 2011.
The artistic part of the celebration was prepared by the second-grade pupils under the guidance of Mrs. Alicja Tomalak and Mr. Krzysztof Ostaszewski. “The Green Riding Hood”, which the children have performed, together with song “Eco eco ecology” ultimately persuaded all the gathered viewers that caring for the environment is a special passion of the Integrational Primary School no 67 in Łódź.
Pupils from our school take part in yearlong waste sorting, collecting plastic caps for recycling, collecting used batteries and waste paper. It is gradually becoming their habit.
September 2011 – March 2012
Systematically twice a year the
pupils from our school pick up
litter around the school areas.
To celebrate World Car Free Day pupils from
our school handed in informational fliers that
encouraged city dwellers to limit motor
transport on the favor of a bicycle or public
transport.
The pupils under the supervision of Art teacher and English teacher have prepared informational posters as well.
One of our goals is to promote healthy
lifestyle and environment-
friendly means of transport. Then, in
connection with the Car Free Day our students took
part in an excursion on bikes
to one of the biggest urban
parks in Europe.
Students involved in the project
collected, dried and described
leaves from the most typical polish
trees. After that, we sent them to all schools taking part
in the project. Some of the leaves
will be soon displayed on our European Tree on
the European Tree.
Pupils from our school created mascots, which were entirely made of secondary materials. As you can see it’s Pinocchio. As an “eco –school” we decided to name it PINECO. Two mascots were given to students from Italy and Portugal during the trilateral meeting on Procida island in Italy.
It was a great fun and pleasure for our students to
make ecological X-mas cards. This task required a
lot of work and creativity from them, but the final
effect was incredible.
Last year there an unusual Christmas tree in our school, namely all the
decorations were handmade by the students and the
teachers. As if that were not enough, they were ecological, for instance: dried slices of oranges, useless CD’s together with
various patters cut out from paper, chains
from the cardboard, pasta and styrofoam…
Four students from the fifth grade (5b) together with the teachers had an opportunity to get an eyeful of Italian culture during polish-italian-portuguesemeeting on a charming island nearby Naples. The weather on Procida was perfect. The inhabitants of this island were extremely hospitable for us. Ala, Julia, Oliwia and Andrzej took part in various ecological workshops as well as integrative games with the hosts and the Portuguese students. Despite the language barriers, everything went ahead in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and flourishing international frienships.
When the end of the carnival is
coming, there is a tradition in our country
and school to organise dress parties. This
year, since we participate in the
Comenius project, the last day of the
carnival looked completely different. We
organised a contest called ECO FASHION.
Volunteers’ task from the whole school
was to create costumes or jewellery. The
only condition was that all these things
had to be made from secondary
materials. That day, the students
presented their costumes on a catwalk.
The jury, including our headmistress
Barbara Celmerowska and other teachers,
were delighted. After uproarious
consultations, the jury announced the
winners and handed in the prizes. It was
a day full of excitement – beautiful
costumes, great atmosphere…
With the help of the teachers, students
from the third grade prepared an ecological culinary feast – sandwiches from bread baked
on their own, salads and various tastes of juice from fresh
fruit and vegetables.
Second gradestudents keep and lookafter such spieces as: African mantis, red-eared slider and stickinsect calledPeruphasma schultei
They also donatemoney for the North American racoonnamed „Globus” thatlives in the ZoologicalGarden in Łódź.
Our students preparedseveral birdfeeders out of recycled materials. We placed them near schooland feed birds with grainand lard.
Just before spring studentstook part in preparation of several nesting boxes for birds. They got to knowthat a type of box dependson the spieces of birds.
Thanks to thecommitement of engineers from DalkiaHeat and Power Plant our students had a chance to observe theproccess of generatingmass amount of heat. They also learned aboutthe importance of saving energy duringwinter and useful tipshow to do it.
