GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE MASTER´S PROGRAM

ObjectivesThe objective of the program is the impartation of an in-depth academic education. Buil-ding on an undergraduate studies, the master´s program offers the possibility of a further specialization. Graduates have an overview of the coherencies of the selected subject and are able to apply more in-depth scientific methods and insights to work in leading positions or as scientists in various professional fields.

RequirementsGraduates of a bachelor degree course in Business and Economics with a study period of at least three years or a university degree in a program in the area of business or econo-mics with a study period of at least three years, which has been completed successfully, will be admitted to the study program. Further details are provided in the admission regu-lations.

Provision of InformationProspective and current students can obtain basic information on the contents, the struc-ture and the course of the program, as well as the application and examination procedures at the Student Counselling Center (ZSB) or at the Student Information Center (SIZ) of the university. Furthermore, the C@reerCenter Hohenheim informs and counsels about the career perspectives and career entry. The subject-specific student counselling, especially concerning the contents of study and electives, is conducted by the department student advisors.

Study and examination regulationsThe study plan explains the examination regulations. For a successful course of study, knowing and adhering to the examination regulations is stringently required! The present study plan should help students to facilitate the individually design of their curriculum based on the examination regulations. The design serves as a basis for the individual study and examination plan which will be built by the students taking account of the requi-rements and deadlines mentioned in the examination regulations.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE MASTER´S PROGRAM

Structure of the program: Modules | Teaching contents | CoursesThe standard period of study of this modularly structured master´s program is four se-mesters. In each semester, five modules have to be completed successfully. Detailed descriptions of teaching contents of the modules are available at www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/module-catalogue. Each module consists of one or several course/s (lecture, exercise, seminar and others). With aid of the course names and the course catalog, which is res-pectively provided at the beginning of semester at www.uni-hohenheim.de/vvz, students are able to create their schedules for the upcoming semester.

Credit pointsFor the workload linked with each standard module 6 credits can be achieved respectively 9 and 3 credits which can be achieved in the compulsory modules. For the master´s thesis 18 credits will be awarded with successful completion. The master´s program encompas-ses 120 credits. In each module graded assessments - defined in the module catalog - has to be achieved accompanying the studies. An assessment is considerd as passed if it is at least graded with 4.0.

ExaminationsThe examinations are taking place subsequently to the lecture period. Usually, the lec-ture period of the winter semester starts in mid-October and ends in January / early in February. The lecture period of the summer semester usually starts mid-April and ends in the second half of July. Registration for exams is required through the Examinations Office during the registration period (which is determined by the Examinations Office). Appointments will be displayed at the Examinations Office and are available at www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/exams or Studium Online.

Master´s thesisThe master´s thesis is designed to show that the students are capable of independently elaborating a problem in the field of business and economics applying academic methods. Usually, the master´s thesis is written during the fourth semester.

The master´s program consists of three fields. The compulsory modules comprise 30 credits, the elective modules 72 credits (= 12 modules; 6 credits each) and the master´s thesis will be awarded with18 credits.

The compulsory modules consist of five basic modules with 6 credits each.

The elective modules consist of twelve modules with 6 credits each. Ten of those can be elected without restrictions, the other two modules have to be seminars. Of the freely electible modules, there may be no more than two modules from the business field and/or the field of social sciences in sum.

If five modules of the elective modules are chosen with at least 30 credits and with at least one seminar with 6 credits as well as a master‘s thesis with a subject in the Major Field „Inequality and Economic Policy“, the title of the Major Field will be declared in the certificate. The modules beloning to the Major Field can be found in the module catalogue.

The choice of the modules can be bound to certain preliminary courses (as stated in the module descriptions - see prerequisites for attention under www.uni-hohenheim.de/en/module-catalogue). Compulsory modules cannot be chosen.

The subject of the master‘s thesis can be chosen from the modules of the compulsory modules or the chosen modules of the field of Economics.
