EDCM Building Services Consulting Engineers Ltd recognises the importance of environmental issues and policy, worldwide, and have several employees registered through CIBSE as “low carbon consultants and Energy Assessors”. EDCM Building Services Consulting Engineers Ltd provides an “In house capability” of pre-assessments to achieve the most economic design solutions for BREEAM, Code for Sustainable Homes, etc. EDCM have the expertise to model complex buildings to assess Part L requirements and compliance.

EDCM employ registered Low Carbon Consultants, Accredited Energy Assessors (Domestic and Non-Domestic, EPC and DEC), Licensed BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessors. EPCs and DECs and more importantly the required Recommendation and Advisory reports can and should provide clients with advice on possible energy savings leading to reduction in running costs and carbon emissions. EDCM engineers can help clients realise substantial savings through improved energy efficiency. EDCM can also advise on suitable renewable energy technologies and the enhanced paybacks through the Feed in Tariffs (FiTs) and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) initiatives. EDCM will also shortly have registered Green Deal advisers.

OUR APPROACH

EDCM adopt a proactive approach to design team integration at all stages of a project. The aims and objectives are to develop a full understanding of the client’s requirements as early as possible and provide a focused holistic approach to the development of the complete project. Leeds NHS Trust

EDCM is very pleased to be a framework consultant to the Trust providing healthcare specific mechanical and electrical engineering services to over 30 schemes including Aseptic Clean Rooms, Ophthalmology Day Theatre, Ward Upgrades, Radiology reconfiguration, Clinical Skills Laboratory and Lift replacements to Chancellors, Ashley and Gledhow Wings, Pathology Labs scheme and many more.

Calderdale Royal MHU EDCM has undertaken a number of

schemes on behalf of Vita Lendlease and has recently

completed the refurbishment and alterations to the Beechdale mental health unit, as well as the section 136 facility, the

new Angioplasty facility and new CT scanner scheme.

Sovereign Lecture Theatre

New lecture theatre development at Bradford Royal Infirmary. EDCM

undertook full M&E design service.




St James’s Hospital, Leeds – Pathology Laboratories EDCM appointed to provide full design services for the relocation of the Pathology Laboratories to the St James’s Site across Blocks 31, 32 and 46.. Scheme included Cytology, specialist Histology, Cat 3 lab, SLA Haematology and Mass Spectrometry Labs and services included air conditioning, specialist fume extract, pressurisation, lab gases (Nitrogen, Argon, Compressed Air, Vacuum and Helium). Equipment included Fume Cupboards, MSCs and ventilated benches.

Leeds General Infirmary – Aseptic Suite

Scheme includes 2No. Chemotherapy clean rooms each with 2No. Negative pressure isolators, 2No. CIVAS clean

rooms each with 2No. Positive pressure isolators and a Parenteral Nutrition clean room with 3 No. Laminar flow cabinets.

St. James’s Hospital – Clinical Skills laboratory

Creation of new clinical skills laboratory providing state of the art post graduate teaching and simulation facility. EDCM

provided detail design of mechanical and electrical services

HEALTHCARE SCHEMES




Freeman Hospital Twin Angiography and CT Scanner Vigor appointed to provide full mechanical and electrical design services for this state of the science radio diagnostic facility. The scheme provides two new Angiography suites constructed to operating theatre specifications to enable diagnosis and intervention. In addition the scheme will also provide a new 64 slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner.

Leeds General Infirmary – In Patient and Out Patient Pharmacy

EDCM appointed for design of services involved in the provision of new In and Out patient pharmacy facilities. Scheme includes robotic dispensing facility and

associated services.

St. James’s Hospital – Operating Theatre Upgrades

EDCM appointed for full design of all M&E services involved in full upgrade of services

to current HTM compliance including new air conditioning plant and ductwork,

medical gases, lighting , power, IPS/UPS, hot and cold water services and Public

Health to 6 operating theatres within Chancellors Wing.

Foxhill Academy, Scunthorpe This school re-modeling project was delivered as part of the Building Schools for the Future program for North Lincolnshire Council. The project comprised part refurbishment and part new build.

Hollingworth Business & Enterprise Academy Hollingworth Business & Enterprise College was

delivered as part of the Building Schools for the Future program for Rochdale Council. The project includes the building of a new facility building on the existing site to

provide state of the art teaching facilities to the campus.

Siddal Moor Sports Academy The new 3 story extension of the existing Siddal Moor Sports College was completed this week. EDCM worked alongside project managers as technical advisors on this project which was part of the BSF Rochdale scheme. This is one of seven BSF projects EDCM worked on in the Rochdale and Scunthorpe areas.

Macclesfield College New Campus £30m EDCM was appointed as Building Services consultants for the new Macclesfield Learning Zone campus re-development. The development comprised the phased construction of a new College core building, 6th Form centre and Centre for Aeronautical Training facility (ECAT). Best New Building 2009 - Macclesfield Civic Society award

Leeds College of Technology £1.2m

The project involved the relocation of the electrical teaching workshops, estates,

finance and executive areas along with the formation of a new Learning Resource

Centre and refurbishment of refectory and main reception areas.

Engineering, Construction and Sports Sciences Campus

Bradford College £18m EDCM was appointed for the New Sports,

Construction and Engineering Campus. Sustainability and renewable technologies

were an important factor for the college




Blackburn College – Beacon Centre - £14m EDCM was appointed to complete the full mechanical and electrical design of the new college core building together with responsibility for BREEAM advice and certification. The construction of the building will rely heavily on sustainable technologies and efficient use of construction and natural ventilation, and is being built to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating.

Calderdale College – Inspire Centre - £7m The new college facility at Calderdale College in Halifax

comprises a new sports facility including 3g sports pitch, dance studio and new sports hall. A further wing to the facility

incorporates a new higher education teaching block over 3 levels and a new LRC centre. The M&E design was undertaken

by EDCM together with the BREEAM assessment and renewable strategy .

Blackburn College Phase 5a & b - £11m EDCM was appointed to complete the full mechanical and electrical design for the refurbishment of the existing CCA Building and Victoria Building at the current campus site. The existing Old Victoria building is a listed property, therefore careful consideration was given to the refurbishment options. Each scheme was to achieve BREEAM Very Good

Outwood Grange School EDCM appointed for part refurbishment part new build scheme for new Fitness Suite and associated changing facilities as well as fire alarm upgrades

North Lincolnshire Schools BSF - £91m EDCM appointed as technical adviser / monitoring

agents for mechanical and electrical services associated with this BSF project.

Brumby College (pictured) and Melior School are the first two phases of the works.

Tamworth and Lichfield College The latest phase in the ongoing development of Tamworth and Lichfield college. Phase 3 included the construction of the new Art faculty block built on the Friary Campus in Lichfield which followed on from phase 2. A city centre location built directly adjacent to the existing college buildings, to accommodate the increasing numbers of students applying to this popular college facility

Academies Capital Maintenance Fund EDCM has carried out site inspections in relation to compliance and services condition assessment for a number of recently converted academies in order to assist with the preparation of business case documentation to support their applications to the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund. The Exchange, Chester This mixed use site in the city centre of Chester has undergone full refurbishment to accommodate new premium office space, 60 bedroom Travelodge hotel and retail areas to the Ground Floor level, including 2 Bars and a Pizza Express.

XSite, XScape, Castleford EDCM provided M&E detailed design for

this 18,500 sq.ft. venue which is located at ‘Xscape’ in Castleford. ‘Xsite’ will

be fully adaptable as a multi functional venue to hold events such as

concerts, lectures, exhibitions and nightclub entertainment

Europlex, Bicocca, Italy EuroPlex Bicocca boasts 18 cinema screens

which can accommodate more than 6000 people. EDCM undertook

abridged design duties for the mechanical and electrical services

installation

Kingsway Business Park Kingsway Business Park development located at junction 21 of the M62 in Rochdale will comprise approximately 4.5m sq.ft. of mixed use premises built on a 60 acre site. EDCM is appointed to detail and manage the utilities infrastructure to the development and to provide mechanical and electrical design input. EDCM is also providing sustainability and BREEAM Certification and advice as well as Part L compliance checks and EPC production.

Somerfield Roll-Out Programme Over 29 modern forecourt retail stores

each between 1000 and 3000 Sq.ft. have been successfully handed over and

opened within the UK over an 18 month period. Each store comprises a modern

forecourt, many with new fuel storage tanks, petroleum dispensing

equipment, car wash and food store.

THE EDCM APPROACH

THE EDCM APPROACH

A thorough understanding of the Clients objectives can only be achieved through thorough liaison and discussion with the Client. Liaison and communication are key factors in developing the design process: to develop the design and operational briefs. EDCM have the experience, foresight and communication skills to ensure that the brief is developed and agreed with the Client. Within the design process EDCM’s primary objective is to ensure that the overall concept of the buildings is established in respect of its configuration and use: the precise scope and performance of the systems would be defined together with precise quality control standards in respect of materials and workmanship. The defined requirements would not be limited to the static performance of the systems so as to maintain good environmental conditions but would also include a financial commitment to achieving low owning and operating costs within defined objectives.




THE EDCM APPROACH

EDCM recognise the importance of involving their clients and design teams in the decision making process, on the selection of the various services and how this may effect the Project at completion or the life cycle analysis of any given project. Life cycle and value engineering analyses are becoming forever paramount as clients consider the effect of design decisions over the long term business strategy. Many clients, who procure either through long lease or through capital ventures know how these decisions, can affect them. This is something EDCM relate to even more than competitors as EDCM has had first hand experience with blue chip major clients over long term development and expansion programmes.

EDCM is a current member of ConstructionLine as well as the Association of Consulting Engineers and The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers. In addition EDCM staff are actively encouraged to join relevant professional institutions and currently our membership includes: - Members and Associates of the Chartered Institution of Building services Engineers, Fellow of the Forum for the Built Environment, Fellow and Members Institution of Engineering and Technology, Fellow Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management, Members and Fellow Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers, Members American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, Member Society of Environmental Engineers, Member Institute of Facilities Management and Member Medical Gas Association. We have a number of engineers who have successfully completed the training and examinations to become registered low carbon consultants and also have several engineers who have completed the training and examinations to become authorised “competent” persons under the CIBSE registered scheme as accredited Low Carbon Energy Assessors (non-domestic) as well as the Stroma accredited scheme for Energy Assessors and SAP (domestic). We also have BREEAM licensed assessors and accredited Code for Sustainable Homes assessors. EDCM Vigor are members of ConstructionLine.
