Pent Tent is a space that intrigues university pedestrians to pause mid-transit in the winter. The structure compels commuters to the lesser traveled path along The Knoll by engaging existing landscaping and mimicking existing light sources. Pent Tent is designed to be built from stock building materials and assembled by two people.

When journaling about studying in Florence, I am fascinated by the depth of history of existing structures in contrast with new construction. In such a historic city, the layers of style and adaptation have vibrant color and character that I can’t afford to forget. Painting expressively with watercolor allows me to record my rich experience of the city.

Explorations in bringing journaling aestetic into spatial and communal terms. The book brings community dialog into form by synthesizing input from anonymous sources into one that is shared. Overlaying unheard, individual voices causes confusion, yet also shows the beauty in the differences of personality. The sculptural, screen-printed object is created from overlapping, journaled handwriting. It’s not about reading the text, rather it is about the freeing experience that comes from writing something you know is unreadable.
