Edmonton is the perfect grandstand to watch all your favourite sports. This August, the city welcomes the best players from the LPGA tour at the 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open. The city plays host to the kickoff of the Tour of Alberta, an 850-kilometre cycling race that takes place over six days and marks Canada’s first major international professional stage race. Edmonton is proud of its professional sports heritage with the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton Eskimos, Edmonton Rush lacrosse team as well as the Edmonton Oil Kings junior hockey team. Want to get in on the action? There are more than 84 golf courses within an hour of downtown Edmonton—including Northern Bear, a Jack Nicklaus Signature course.

Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village

History is brought to life at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, an outdoor living history museum that invites visitors of all ages to step back in time and learn the fascinating story of Ukrainian settlement in east central Alberta, Canada’s oldest and largest settlement of Ukrainian pioneers.

What is the best way to explore Alberta’s past at this hidden gem, located only 25 minutes east of Edmonton along Highway 16? As a time traveller, of course! Visitors can explore more than thirty historic structures restored to their original appearance and interact with costumed role-players portraying actual pioneers who once lived in the region. Step inside an actual burdei (sod house) to witness how the earliest pioneers lived more than 120 years ago. Help a farmer with a chore or two on a farm where horses did most of the heavy lifting. See Red Fife wheat growing in the fields as you tour around on a free horse-drawn wagon ride. Send the children to a one-room school house, or visit the blacksmith to learn how easy it was to shoe a horse. Let the agent show you around his grain elevator to earn your business at harvest.

A variety of special events and activities for all the family pays tribute to Ukrainian culture and heritage today or tip a nod to Alberta’s agricultural past.

Drop in tours provide a one hour introductory guide tour that is included in the general admission. Drop in tours are available daily, except on special event days and on Wednesdays in July and August. Tours depart at the top of the hour from 11am to 2pm.

Open daily from 10am - 5pm from May 18 to September 3, the experience is complete with authentic, locally-produced Ukrainian food at the Kalyna Café and local gift products at the museum store.

BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life. Your body is a symphony with millions of finely tuned instruments playing in perfect concert. As time goes by, age changes the instruments, both by design and in reaction to our own choices. The stunning new exhibition, BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life, is your opportunity to peer behind the curtain and see the concert inside yourself as you’ve never seen it before. Visitors will witness the body living through time—as it changes, grows, matures, and finally wanes. This new exhibition makes its Canadian debut in Edmonton for the summer.

The IMAX Theatre features a great lineup of IMAX films that run hourly throughout the day: Rocky Mountain Express is an enchanting story about the building the nation’s first transcontinental railway. Filmed in Alberta and British Columbia, the film blends an epic story with spectacular scenery of the Canadian Rockies and transports you back in time to the age of steam. Also playing in IMAX are Flight of the Butterflies and Hubble.

The Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre features full-dome shows which provide an immersive 360-degree experience and is included with general admission with hourly shows throughout the day.
