Edney Edition Term 2 Week 7 13 June 2019 The Edney Way - Respect and Excellence OUTDOOR ADVENTURE DAYS Our Year 5 and 6 students did themselves and the school proud with their determination, willingness to challenge themselves and embrace the opportunities at the Outdoor Adventure Days. While the weather was against us, we fortunately had dry conditions for most of the time. The weather is an interesting phenomenon. It is one of the factors that affects many school decisions, but, alas, try as I might, the control of the weather evades my powers. That said, wherever possible, we do try to plan events at the most appropriate times, and the Outdoor Adventure Days I am confident will not be held in Winter again. Whenever it looks like the sky may open, we are flooded (excuse the pun) with questions about events and whether they will still go on. These enquiries come from a place of concern and love. But, just like curry, what is mild and comfortable to one person, brings tears and discomfort to another, so the ultimate choice is yours. We do nurture the children to take risks, but safe ones only. Thank you to the staff who made this opportunity available and adventured alongside the children. COLOUR RUN Tomorrow is the day, the weather looks ok, and I think we can safely say, that we can get away with an hour of sunshine for our Colour Run. All families are welcome to come down and spectate, and the students are asked to please dress in white or light colours (remember, old or not very special clothing, as it will get colourised). To avoid the catastrophe of 400 children getting changed at once, children can come to school in their colour-run ready outfit (but dont forget the jumper and maybe a spare shirt for after). The colour-run proper kicks-off at 2pm, and there will be a variety of circuits to choose from with obstacles and challenges, and, for those who wish to maintain the pristineness of their clothing, a colour- free lane. Above all, this event is for fun, and fundraising, with all donations going to the P&C. From the Principals Desk SCHOOL CREED The School Board this week voted unanimously that the School Creed is retired from the end of this term. While it has served our school for the past thirty years, we now have something to call our own, in our school song. It has been great to borrow the creed used in 100s of schools across the world, and well say it one last time this term. EDUDANCE CONCERTS Lessons have been going great, there the pulsing beat through my door each Monday and Friday, and students will soon be ready to showcase their moves and skills at the Edudance concerts to be held in Week 10. A note detailing which classes have been assigned to each day along with costume suggestions will be issued next week. NAIDOC DAY Edneys NAIDOC celebrations ramp up this year, with a day for all in our community to acknowledge and respect the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the country that we all live in and share together. We will be marking NAIDOC Day on Friday 5 th July – the last day of this term. The opening ceremony commences at 10am, with activities from 11am – 1pm. We will be running NAIDOC in the style of Edney Day, where students and their families are free to choose from and move between activities during the day. More details coming soon. ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 Time is running out, with the deadline for Kindergarten and Pre-primary applications for 2020 closing on July 26 th of this year, but do not despair, we still have some spaces available. Woolworths Earn and Learn This program gives schools and Early Learning Centres around Australia the chance to earn amazing school equipment. Collect your stickers from your local Woolworths stores between the 1st May and 25th June 2019. Place your stickers in the specially marked box located at Forrestfield Woolworths or bring your stickers to Edney Primary School Library.

Year 6 Visual Arts Printmaking This term our Year 6s will be participating in a printmaking project with Dawson Park Primary School. This is a sustainability project that involves students trading second-hand shirts and upcycling them using block printing techniques. So far, students have started considering their design preferences in preparation for the swap. For this project to be successful each student will need a plain (preferably white or light coloured) second-hand shirt. The shirt may come from home, be donated by a friend/family member or purchased from an opportunity store. Please, do not buy a new shirt as this is a sustainability project. Students are asked to bring their shirt to school as soon as possible. All shirts will be labelled with the student’s first name and delivered to Dawson Park Primary School so their Year 6s can begin printing. If you are having any difficulty obtaining a shirt, contact me via the school email address straight away. We look forward to sharing our work with you, kind regards Mrs Rozario
