Educators are being asked to track data on student achievement, but how? After completing this lesson educators will be able to create a custom report to analyze classroom data in DataDirector.

During this lesson educators will work within DataDirector to:-Utilize the Report application to analyze data-Create Custom Reports in order to triangulate data -Analyze the results of the classroom assessments

After completion of this lesson educators will be able to:-Make informed instructional decisions that will benefit students' academic success. -Share information with Personal Learning Communities (PLC) to assist in facilitating conversations regarding curriculum and informed instruction for departments or grade levels. -Data conference with colleagues, administrator, or parents ensuring that the resources and supports necessary for student achievement are provide to students' with quality data driven evidence.

Getting Started

Identify three data points in one content area in which you will triangulate data.*

K-8 Example: •STAR Reading (Beginning of Year)•MEAP Reading•ELA Common Core Interim Assessment Form A/Pre-Test

9-12 Example:•ACT EXPLORE•ACT PLAN•ACT/MME Composite

*Be sure to choose data points in which you have consistently collected and entered in DataDirector.

3.) Click on Students from the App Switcher

4.) Click Go in the student filter revealing your student roster.

5.) Click Make This a Report from the left navigation menu under Search General.

6.) Click Modify Columns from the left navigation menu under Report Edit Options.

7.) Select Click Here to add another column

Diving Into DataDirector8.) Use the filters on the left side of the page to narrow the list of available Data Sets (e.g.Assessments, Demographics, etc.) on the right.

9.) Select the Data Set from the box to the right that contains the information you would like to add toyour report.

10.) Use the check boxes to add data to your report. For each box that you select, a report columncontaining that data will appear in your report.

11.) Click Next Step

NOTE: Repeat steps 7-11 to add additional columns (at least 3 data points) to your report.

Your data can be used to analyze student growth and/or also show areas of concern to be able to provide support and interventions through differentiated instruction.

This tool can assist you in the following areas:

determining areas of strength based on student achievement reflect on teaching methods identify materials and resources that are being utilize recognize classroom instruction practices they would like to change. prompt them to voice ideas for instructional development note any additional resources that may be needed to deliver quality and data driven instruction

Further action can be taken to identify low performing students. To give the power of data to educators they must be able to use and understand the data. The Identifying Trends task brings the data to life.

Download your Custom Report into Excel by clicking the Excel icon.

View the YouTube video “Excel 2010: Conditional Formatting” developed by GCF Learnfree.org guide educators through the process of Conditional Formatting to create an end product to be utilized in making informed instructional decision and determining necessary interventions.

Download the custom report into Excel and utilize the Conditional Formatting tool to identify the bottom 30% of their students based on the data within a preferred content area.

Final Product to Further Collection

Final products are to be uploaded into DropBox, omitting student names and UIC numbers following FERPA (Family Education Rights & Privacy Act) guidelines.

Continue your data collection by recording interventions within the 2012-13 Implemented Intervention Record summary assessment within DataDirector.

The Gratiot-Isabella RESD analytic assessment rubric will be used in association with consortium wide professional development to evaluate your work.

NOTE: You as educators will be able to use your final product as part of your growth portfolio to demonstrate your ability to effectively analyze data in accordance with the educator evaluation that has been adopted consortium wide.
