    Segmenting and Pre-training $ responses

Describe the segmenting and pre%training principles. &valuate which learners would benefit

most from pre%training. "inally' briefly describe a pre%training eercise for your *T lesson and

why you believe it will benefit those learners who need it most.

easier to digest (consume) if broen down in portions. *n the contet of instructional design'

segmenting allows instructors1students stages of learning that culminate to an entire lesson.

-ne could omit parts of a lesson in order to lessen potential /cognitive overload02however' the lesson would lose some accuracy. reaing the lesson into segments2 however'

enables instruction delivery into successions of steps that together compose the whole lesson(Mayer and 4lar' 5$66). Thus' segmenting the lesson into parts that eual to a entire lesson is a

new instructional design techniue for teaching comple content to learners who may not befamiliar with the subect.

    Pre-training

8ith pre%training learners are provided with a brief overview of important concept of the

lesson prior to doing the actual lesson activity. ust as with the segmenting principle it relievessome of the cognitive load. 9owever' the load is lesson through an activity that is preliminary to

the lesson. *t reminds me of studying the /table of contents0 of a boo in order to get an overall

idea of the thrust of the boo before reading chapter by chapter.. *n /e%learning0 environmentslearners solve electronics troubleshooting challenges better if they received pertinent information

regarding the subect before attempting the actual problem%solving (Mayer and 4lar' 5$66). &%

learners and to an etent any learners who have very little and1or no nowledge of the content of

the lesson may benefit most because pre%training gives them a /head start0 on the lesson.

"or the *T lesson of using 8eb 5.$ tools to communicate1collaborate on lesson

planning1activities the pre%training would be to provide learners with the features of :ype'

"aceboo' 8ii and logging2 thus' learning to absorb the characteristics of the web 5.$ tools before actually creating accounts and using them for class would alleviate some of the burden on

the student cognitive capacity before the lesson actually commences.
