    SELECTING AND IMPLEMENTING 2

    Introduction

Edudigitalteacher.coms purpose for this project is to select and implement the use of a

mobile learning device to help create a digital learning environment in community court schools.

Creating a digital learning environment requires the use of technological devices and tools to be

utilized for instruction and facilitate learning. When selecting a mobile device it is necessary to

find a device that can be used within the site infrastructure, meet the needs of the educator and

students, and have access to appropriate software and online technology tools and resources.

The implementation of a mobile device requires professional development for the educator,

facilitated supervision for the students, and time to acquire the skills to make the most effective

    use for teaching and learning.

    Todays 21st

    century learner needs; 21st

    century teachers and 21st

    century learning spaces

    to develop 21st

century skills, even in juvenile hall court schools. Crowell, K. (n.d.), Executive

Director for the GOAL Academy, was quoted, with mobile learning technology and initiatives,

we can keep our at-risk kids in school and improve their chances for success in the future.

According to Moeller, B. & Reitzes, T. (2011), because technology is both highly customizable

and intrinsically motivating to students, it is particularly well-suited to expand the learning

    experience.

    Mobile Device Selection

The initial step in creating a digital learning environment is to acquire the technology,

software, and develop the site infrastructure in order to develop the learning platform. In order

to do this, one must determine the needs of the environment and select an appropriate mobile

device to meet those needs. A needs-analysis will take place after which a list of appropriate

mobile device options will be generated after product review and analysis of a variety of

Windows driven laptops, netbooks, tablets, and chrome books that meet the needs within the

proposed budget. The selection process will also include the selection of a wireless mobile

computer cart with ability to charge the devices and will undergo a similar process as the mobile

device. The mobile computer cart will be used to move the mobile devices from one classroom

to another to facilitate a 1:1 digital learning environment for the students.

According to Webster, A. (2013), if you choose the right device, students will be more

engaged, attendance improves, and learning is recognizably more independent and more

thorough. Choose wrong and things wont get worse, they will simply stay the same.

    Mobile Device Implementation

After the mobile devices and mobile computer cart are purchased the Information

Technology Department will assemble and test the mobile computer lab. The teacher assigned to

pilot the use of the mobile lab will participate in professional development to be prepared with

enough time to plan integration into math and science. Implementation will begin the 2014-2015

school year and will undergo continuous formative assessment by the teacher and quarterly

summative assessments throughout the school year by the teacher and project management team.
